Carrying on from the S'reg 996 thread, I wondered if Traction Control was standard fit on a 1999 996. Mine's got it and I thought they all came with it. Did it come as part of an option pack or on its own?

Was an option right the way thru the model years on a 996 C2

Yeah, as above, on the C2 traction was an option - i think the facelift might have PSM as standard, but i cant be sure.

and whilst we are on the subject -

996's do NOT come with a LSD (limited SLip Diff) - it would appear that people assume that they do - I can only guess that they assume this because of the fuss that Top Gear made with the Cayman about Porsche not letting it have a LSD as it would be better than a 911 - what they failed to mention is that a 911 does not have a LSD as standard either...

As far as I know - GT3/GT2 Turbo aside and 4WD models....

The C2's 996 Targa and the 997 C2 & 997 C2S do not come with a LSD unless you opt for the Sports Chassis

Cheers Chaps. I'm going to pop the bonnet and take down the option codes this evening. God knows why I haven't done it before, I'm certainly geeky enough.

Your right. Mine has the sports chassis and no traction. I thought perhaps you had to ask for it to be deleted but obviously not. I do not have LSD either.

If you look at your options list it may show the following:

224 Active Brake Differential which is the LSD

222 Traction Control.

Actually Traction Control is easy to spot by the button next to the climate control display on the dash with TC on it.rolleyes

Mine has both and 030 which is the Sports Group. I don't know if you can get LSD without Sports Group.

Hello all

Mines a 98 and it has TC. It definatley doesnt have a slippy diff as it will not do donuts as I found out in a field in lemons this year :-)

Don't forget that even if your car had a LSD when it left the factory if its done more than about 30-40K miles it won't have one now as the plates will have worn out. Unless of course you've had the diff plates renewed ...

Checked out my options list this morning. Not easy to track down a 996 list, eventually found one on the PCGB forums. Apparently RennTech have one on their site too, but my reg email hasn't come through for that yet.

Anyway, I have M222 which explains the traction control button and M222 limited slip diff. No M030 though, although I suspect my coccyx would have let me know that one already.

Other codes that I can't find listings for are X54, X97, X98 and several others.

X-54 is stainless steel exhaust pipes, I think the other two are leather bits!

Try this link, put in the option number and it gives you the option name....
