I stand very corrected.

Please feel free to say 'I told you so'...the rear box came off last week and some big fat straight through pipes as a replacement. Cats still on.

It's too loud. I thought I could deal with it, but it's too loud. Scary loud - the sound actually goes through your bones and into the neighbours living room.

My advice to anyone thinking of doing this...would be DON'T. It seemed okay at first, but after a week of driving and feeling like a complete and utter tool, I am getting it sorted today. Some sports mufflers should do it, I hope.

Never thought I would say this, but can't wait for a quieter Cerb.

I Agree with you - I have De-cats with a standard rear box, and it sounds brilliant, just a little bit louder than normal, but a realy nice aggressive sound to it. I dont get the 'LOUD' is best thing. I think its just like the Max Power kids in the Nova's with the 12" bore exhausts, we all look, but were not admiring them

Go through your local village on over run..You will change your mind-You need to make sure there are pedestrians near by.

Same here.
I have a standard back box and de-cat, and its the perfect compromise. You can quietly rumble through a quiet neighbourhood if need be. Or give it the berries and wake up people in the next county.
I would like to have a straight through pipe for ONE day, just to see what it sounds like. But thats it.

I once had a straight through exhaust and decats and it was horrendous. The pictures in the bedroom above the grage fell off the wall when I started it up. The police can hear you coming from the next county. eedless to say i now have decats and standard back box. The best balance IMHO

Just to try it, pull the cats or decat pipes off and fire it up. Should give you some idea of how loud it can get. i imagine it would hurt, especially if you then stuck your head under the car to listen.

Oooh, my new ACT big bore with inbuilt tip silencers has just arrived, looks like Santas come early!! They look gorgeous!! Will fit them and report back in a few hours.....

I must admit that I've got some plans up my sleeves if it's simply too loud, fitting repackable silencers for sprinting is an option.

I've filed the bottom off the ACT back boxes on my current system

I've had the act big bore with silencers fitted to my car plus decat for the last 6 months. Only difference between standard and act system is the pitch. The act system has a deeper sound and not the high pitch of the standard system. Don't actually think its any louder.

I like it! No hard edges, just a deep rumble at idle like distant thunder. Also ,there is no resonance at higher rpm and the system is very light indeed. Can't take it out as its SORN'd but very happy with it!

I love the sound of my ACT bigbore system.

Quite refined at tickover and whilst pootling around town.

Then roaring like a beast when at the top end of the rev range

Good to hear, quite literally . I assume you've got the big bore with the extra tail pipe baffling.
I remember when Tim was trying different one's, big bore with standard tails and big bore with extra baffles I asked which one did he'd recommend. He said it depended on whether you've got neighbours or not . From the posts below looks like I've picked the right one .

Might I suggest that you are being to quiet?
There is a well known psychological effect that de-sensitises our hearing over time.
Its why studio technicians keep on winding up the volume-until they go deaf of course
