I've just received a notice of intended prosecution for being caught by a "saftey camera" on a bridge over the M6 in Cumbria - I was caught doing 80mph! I can't believe they've sent me a NIP for this. Does anyone have any advice that may help me get off this? I have a clean licence so this has really annoyed me. I'm led to believe that there are template letters that may help. Any advice welcome - should I just accept the ticket and take the points & pay the fine?

I got the usual 3 and £60 for 81. For me it was a fair cop and I wasnt particularly bothered. But I do tend to drive faster now that I know I would have got the same 3 and £60 if I was doing up to 95 !

Of course I had a clean licence so I can afford a few zaps from the vans before I need to really start worrying.

I don't think you have much choice, unless you want to take it to court, and try and feck up their little system. The more people who do this the better IMHO. They won't be able to deal with more than 20% of those caught I don't reckon...

But you should also whip yourself 20 times, don't you know that you travelling at 80mph, means many children will be dead as a result. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. And be grateful that those who tailgate, drive drunk, or on the mobile, or without tax and insurance can avoid the police whilst you, you drain on society, have been suitably punished.......

Go to court and you'll come off a lot worse money wise, and probably get more than 3 points. Sucks really.

The limit on a Motorway is 70 mph. Over that you commit an offence.

Known fact that Cumbria are hot on prosecuting speeding offences.

That sucks. But maybe it will have taught you a lesson.

You need to go at 90mph. Might as well get the maximum progress for the occasional £60 fine!

If you feel annoyed and aggrieved. So you should. It may be the law of the land but in this case the law is an ass. Sign up with the many campaigns around to get the law changed.

This site is always worth a look - but it does sound like a fair (if unfair) cop.

Thats a bit harsh, at work 2 lads have been pulled on the M180 one at 94mph and the other at 105mph and both let off with a bollocking!

Sad indictment of our times, but to officialdom speed tax is speed tax. Looking out for the tax collectors usually includes m-way bridges as far ahead as visibility allows, M1, M4 and M6 seem well stocked with speedtaxvans.

Aye, the M6 is obviousl the most dangerous road in cumbria at the minute, hence it being targetted.

"Safety" ( rofl ) cameras don't give bollockings. They just rake in the ££££ usually at the quietest times of day on the safest part of the road.

I got caught doing 84mph on the same stretch of M6 last month, nothing to it but pay up and be more vigilant in the future.
I had a clean licence but put that down to luck, as I speed and had 15 years without being caught.

Blimey. The M6 up there is about the quietest motorway in the country.

Personally I'd fight it all the way. Check out www.pepipoo.com

Never go above 75 between jct 36-40 on the M6.

I always go for best value too. Depending on my mood/conditions 95 or 115. A 100 is a 56 day ban and so is 115, might as well go for it!

Typical ex plod!
This is just a sign of fackin "Blairs Britain" another tax for the innocent working man, traffic coppers have nothing better to do and at the end of the day they have to have something to boost their little ego's. There are only low ranked "bobby's" at the end of the day similar to traffic wardens.
Ask them to send photographic evidence
