At certain low revs I often hear a 'Tock !' from the dash region. A little like clicking one's tongue. Anyone know what this noise is and what's causing it ? Just curious.

I sometimes get this, sounds like the hands of a clock moving?

Often wondered but never looked, only heard at low revs due to exhaust noise otherwise I suspect.

May well be getting a new alarm fitted soon, will take a peek while the dash top is off.

I find this happens in winter and have always put it down to expansion due of heater parts or those parts exposed to heat from the heater. I notice it more when the heater is blowing upward.

The relay for the interior light is under the dash, roughly in the center. If your door does not close enough to press the switch fully you get the occasional click.
Try sticking some kind of pad or grommet on to the door where the switch touches and see if that stops it...or, as said earlier, its the tenth mile wheel clicking.

that's what I'd always assumed it to be.

It sounds like it happens in a lot of cars, mine included!

That's the kind of noise I think it is. It's certainly not a relay.

I'm a little surprised no one has an answer for this as we all appear to hear it. It is not gearing noise from the odometer, more a plastic spring tock sound. As I said like clicking your tounge.

Perhaps I should start worrying when the noise stops irked

Hi folks. I get a poping noise which could be similar to your 'tocking' noise! This i am sure is just a pressure release in one of the dash dials. only happens when the interior starts to heat up.

I think the heat generated noise mentioned above is the cause. I, along with many others, have concluded that the sound occurs in response to use of the heater. Most materials expand as they warm up. You must have heard central heating radiators making noises as they heat up and cool down. That is the transmitted sound of the pipes getting longer and shorter in response to changes in temperature. The dash noise I hear is undoubtedly the sound of parts slipping past each other as they expand. I am so sure of this that I saw no reason to look further. No I haven't proved it but I don't feel I need to.

I know the answer!
Its the expansion of the dial covers/faces. The plastic see through part of the dials expands and makes a popping noise. I found this out when I had the dash apart once.

I was about to say no, we can't, as I have my dashboard in pieces at the moment - the front panel is away for a new veneer. But I've left the clocks there, all connected. I heard the noise the other day when I ran the engine up to temperature and had the heater going full tilt. The noise was exactly the same with the dash top off and the front panel missing, so I reckon you could be right.

I Have now just got my second chimaera and both of them have done the same, it does seem to come from the mid of the dash, not ideas what it is but never had any problems related to it. always put it down to heat making stuff creak

Yup - I get the same noise - I have pinned it down to the dash dial faces, they make a tocking sound when they warm up. If you lightly push the glass faces with your finger they normally make this noise.

Mine also makes this noise. When I swapped the dash I could hear a similar noise but that was only the minute hand of the dash clock.

yes They do indeed. That is exactly what I noticed when I had my clocks out. I had always wondered what it was, and then forgot about it until i had to take the dash apart. Then I noticed the noise. I'm the type of person who has to get to the bottom of these things.

I spoke to a mate of mine who (up till xmas lol) worked at the factory. it gets mentioned an lot when cars come back in for service or repair but nobody really knows what causes it but it is related to the clocks. prob the clear faces. it is heat related and nothing at all to worry about. its just a tvr querk hehe. so thats 1 noice less to worry about, just all the others to sort out now :-)
