Hi guys, anyone had the experience of a puff of smoke from their exhaust at start-up? I have a 2002 2.7L boxster which does this on occassions. Your comments would be appreciated

Ours does this sometimes, usually if it's been left for a while. Bit of blue smoke, drip of black gunk on the floor. If you rev it when you start, it smokes every time.

mine is one of the very first boxster with the 2.5l engine, has 260.000km now. Puffs out some blue smoke on start up when it has beenstanding for a few days, it's because of some oil leaking into the cylinders.
But no worries is harmless, and by the way my car uses absolutely no oil. The best car i ever had

I seem to remember reading it is because the cylinders are horizontal as opposed to vertical some oil gets around and into the top half of the cylinder where it combusts on startup.

Worrying if you don't know about it, especially if you have owned a Renault 5 Turbo that had more turbos and head gaskets than petrol!

Assume that it's the same with all Boxer engines(and I do mean Boxer, not Boxster). I left my 911 for a month last year -the smoke screen on start up would have made a Royal Navy captain proud!
