Well I got her today, one of the pre registered VXR's in silver.
I have not got the instruction manuals etc yet so wondered about running in.
How long and how many revs ???
Would a oil change at 1000 miles be a good idea as the car was put together
in May 2005 according to the chassis plate.
Shes a bit more of a handfull than my old MY02 E46 M3 - it had an SMG box as well so my
left arm and leg need building up !!
The exhaust does seem very quiet - not as loud even as the M3.
How cool are Vauxhall regarding re maps and wortec bits etc when it comes to warranty work ?
Cheers Neil

I kept mine under 3000 rpm for first 500 miles and under 4 for next 500, then open roads...

I believe Vauxhall are cool about Wortec mods but you'd be best discussing it with them before taking the plunge if you are worried about the warranty

Welcome & you'll be glad you picked the quickest colour Much more exclusive as well.

Mine was run in by Richard Hammond - so it was nice and loose by the time I got it!

I heard about someone (no names) who did exactly that & has some of the best power results. Had a Pug 106 GTI once from new, head gasket needed doing at 8k but boy how that car went, would sit on the limiter 4 up at nearly 140 mph & only a 1600cc lump too.

DO a search on this forum under running in, v interesting thread about needing some high revs for short periods to help pistons bed in. LS1 engine was prone to using lots of oil if run in too gently. Congrats on the new car I got mine last week 17 miles on the clock (not bad for a 2nd hand car) oh and I think mine was last of the black ones in the current bargain run. there can not be many left now?

Yeah I think it was me that posted the link.
Basically let it warm up then thrash the daylights out of it.
Just keep an eye on temps, oil levels and water levels.

I think we should start the 'how did you decide on your nickname' thread again, there must be a great story behind 'habitualvoyeur'

Sorry to disappoint - it just means "always looking"........at the forum of course.
I got it from the Blur song "park life"
"Confidence is a preference of the habitual voyeur of what is known as............Park life"

Thanks for the tips.......
I am currently keeping to sub 3-4000 revs in between bouts of not !!!

I told my wife the Monaro would be as economic to run as the M3,
but so far "Liverpool and Victoria" and the (trip)computer says NO

Cheers Neil

Over 25 years I've had the dubious pleasure of running in hundreds of new cars and I firmley believe it pays dividends to go very gently for the first 200 miles (watch your engine temp during the first 100 miles it shows how much heat is being generated by all the new bits rubbing together) , then gently take it up towards a max of 3000rpm over the next 300 miles and then let 'er go.
I always use Mobile 1 at 5,000 miles.(the standard oil is not the best available but will allow it to bed in better)
A wortec Re-map and catback Exhaust will put pay to tour timid exhaust note, Price Circa £1595 worth very penny and ads around 20bhp and 20lb/ft of torque. Vauxhall warrantee is not effected.

You have to vary revs and load from day one in order to bed the rings into the bores. You need load to push the rings out against the cylinder walls. Ls ring packs are thin low tension items to allow them to rev
