Hi,

Thinking of buying a 996 - advertised as "Full official Porsche service history", but it goes something like this ..

1st: 5,000 miles - Jan 02
2nd: 9,000 miles - Jan 03
3rd: 20,000 miles - Jan 04
4th: 34,000 miles - June 05 (i.e 14,000 miles and 18 months)

Its now done 46,000 miles and yet to be serviced - i.e overdue by 6 months again.

What do you think ?

Are you able to get a warranty if its not been serviced within the Manufacturers recommendations?

So many 996s around you'd be mad to buy one with a history like that.

the post face lift cars have a longer interval and mileage.

Why?

Its a pre face lift, which I thought should be serviced every 12 months or 12,000 miles. Just a hunch that if it hasn't been serviced regularly it may not have been treated correctly in other manners - and it may affect resale value.

You say there's a lot around, but I've only found about 3 in the last 6 months ... I might be a bit fussy, but I DON'T want ...
- a cabriolet
- a targa
- a tiptronic
- a C4
- a grey, blue, red, brown, green or sick coloured interior (and preferably not a blue one either)
- a high mileage
- a 97, 98 or 99 model
- a GT3 aerokit
- GT3 alloys
- a red, yellow, black, green or ocean / zenith blue one
- one with a dodgy service history or too many owners
- one with sports supsension or sports exhaust (unless switchable).
- one over £30K

So, that leaves me with a choice either a lapis blue, silver or iris blue one with black interior, manual C2 of 2000 or 2001 vintage - which there aren't many around.

Just out of interest if you would go for Lapis why not Ocean? Any particular reason or just not your cup of tea?

Simple one ... my current car (a fiat) is a very similar colour to ocean, so wanted a change ...

IMO because Lapis is nicer than ocean...

My view of the blues go as follows..

Cobalt
Lapis
Midnight (mine)
Ocean
Zephar (or whatever it is)

no, my personal choice there Magic i'm assuming everyone has theirs which was answering the question to why the OP wanted a specific colour over another one.
The same reason someone might want a black 996 over a red one... we do have wives/girlfriends that value these things you know

And I don't know Gary - but ive been told its midnight *shrugs*

Ah ok, didn't mean to offend.

Here's mine then:

1. Light Blue.
2. Dark Blue.
3. Mid Blue.

sounds good.

Its also worth mentioning I also attempted a more sutble message - that I ended up with a car which was not my preffered choice of colour - that perhpas a little comprimise is the key to happiness...

You missed:-
Iris (replaced by Lapis)
Horizon
Maritime
Riviera
Sapphire
I'm sure there are more going back into the 60s and 70s.

I might be wrong but is the 48k service the expensive one, which is why the owner may have put it off.
