A quick topical Q

I turned on my foglights today, first time in a long while..

At the back I only had one side (offside) lit up.

Should they both be on?

No.

Legally you should only have one, on the offside, so that people don't confuse them with your brake lights... and then ignore them when you are actually braking.

Personally, I think that they are only useful in conditions that I would probably not drive in. The rest of the time they are just an annoyance to those following.

As for using them anywhere except the motorway/dual carriageway.... aaaaarghhhhh furious

Actually it's legally required that you have at least one. Many cars do in fact have 2 - more cost cutting from Porsche?? Incidentally, does a 911 have 2 reversing lights or just one?

Strongly agree - the number of people who think that a slight mist is sufficient justification for both front and rear fogs is amazing.

It depends on the conditions, but I do agree that even in really thick fog, if you are in a queue of traffic then you don't need rear fogs on, burning into the retina of the poor driver behind !!
