Rear fog lights for C5Z06
Discussion
My Z06 has come with a stainless steel/corvette logo billet inbetween the tailpipes, and I would rather like to keep that rear view and not spoil it with the single fog light as most SVA mods. The current C6 (whether US or Euro-spec) have "fog" within the existing outer R roundels, and could theoretically be used (at a price).
Does anyone know of another method using the existing C5 Z06 rear lights, perhaps with led's etc, and would satisfy the SVA. I am aware of a commercial SVA mod, but it comes at a significant price.
Yes, I know that I could rig up the rear fog such that it could be removed, and re-fitted for the MOT

My C5 Z06 also came with the exhaust plate but I am going to mount the foglight centrally anyway. You could use one of the reversing lights next to the number plate as long as it is the passenger side one. I believe some people have done this but you would need to check with the www.vosa.gov.uk site to see what the specifications say about visibility particularly regarding angles and height.
Problem you have is that fag lamps must be "E" marked. I don't think you can rely on converting one of the reversing lamps, as it wont have the appropriate marking. Sad but true. Best solution is to swallow your pride for the SVA test, then do your mods afterwards, as an MOT won't be so picky...
I've thought a lot about this one. I bit the bullet and fitted the square fog between the tails to pass SVA. The fixing is unobtrusive so you can take it off at any time or even leave it there to pop the light back on for MOT. Providing you leave enough spare wire you can play the tunes later.
I can only see 2 other options. Fit the light in the offside housing for either the reversing light cluster or the tail lights or go for strip LEDs in the lower vents.
For the lights option. If you fitted red over clears in one of the housings you could fit a red bulb into the socket and wire up the fog switch to that. This should be fine as the red/clear units are GM spec and E Marked. The other option may be to reinstall the standard US red tail light with a higher wattage (21w) bulb. Not sure how stock red inners would look with red/amber outers though. The reversing light option is easy but I'm not sure if the housing is E Marked. They seem to turn a blind eye to it for SVA purposes as a reversing light. Not sure how they'd view it if it was in use as a fog. The fog light regs are specific as needing an E marked housing.
For the lower vent option the lights need to be 250mm above ground height. The upper slot just complies with that. Even recessed I think it should satisfy the angles of visibility. I've found some lights that may fit and I'll probably order them. With LEDs, the drain should be such that I could get away with a pair without other relays etc. I'd need to look at the fittings to see how I'd attach the lights behind the rear bumper.
All that said, I still think that SVA has enough pitfalls as it is. best get that sorted and mod later IMHO.
I quizzed my MOT man on this just yesterday. He was quite happy with any of the solutions I mentioned. I suggested LED strip lights in the lower vents, a fog in one of the red housings over the amber turn signal or a refit of the stock red lens with a 21w higher wattage bulb. No problem with any of those.

Where did you get these light clusters? did you make them yourself? I've never seen anything like them...?
v7tte i made them .used lights i got in florida pepboys.there for a honda accord 1995/96 ,come in pairs.each of the clusters has 3 lights
1 stacked on the other etc.had to stick the leds in with silicon to get the right angle for the bulb.this was the type of lamps i was after nothing like this available.so gave it ago.they do have a bezzel type surround which is from ecklers but with the two middle bars cut out.the original lamps i could put back in anytime,so nothing done to drastic.they were a pain to make but i like em.hope you bump into my car in the new year you can judge for yourself. later dave.

This may well satisfy the MOT requirements, but would it satisfy the SVA??

This would be fine for a Lenient MOT tester, but as for SVA, there looking for E marks or the intensity of the lamp lense not just putting a 21w bulb behind a side lamp for example !

Oh, oh - looks like Pete's bored after Christmas.
Dave - can you post a pic without your car in the way - it's blocking the view of the posters at the end of your garage.

No it wouldn't
I made sure I used a fully compliant fit for the test. MOT is more lenient.

VOSA are picky.
Fog lights are higher reflectance internal reflectors.
