First the clutch, then the brakes, suspension, exhaust, electrics, battery, Navi, aaaarrrgggghhh!!!

Now the gear lever is turning 360 - but still connected and working fine? It's running like a pile of poo - smells of fuel and ide too high, massive flat spot at around 2000rpm. It's overheating, cause the fans aren't turing on?

I am seariously about to go shopping for an Aston or a 550M. Really. patience is almost at its end and the other half is doing the whole 'I Told you so' thing. not good.

Every time I take it into get something fixed, the bloody thing comes back with a new prob. And the bill gets bigger. You guys don't know how lucky you are to have indies and a full dealer network...in English!!!!

Any help with advice to the garage would be much appreciated - especially tuning as they are a bit ignorant to specifications. Throttle pots etc.

1. Fans not turning on. Relays and fuses seem to be fine - but I do not have a Fuse diagram for a 2001 4.5LW. So am pissing in the wind.
2. Idle at 1300rpm...flat spot at 2000rpm, smells like hell of High Octane.
3. Exhaust too loud - but that's my fault.
4. Gear lever is loose - but everything works fine, just spinning around in its place. Will it pop off? has something come loose? Is it threaded?

Really need a light to shine right now, was planning a drive around Japan over the holidays and could be stuck driving the bloody Audi. But at least it works.

Best
Kevin

I've got all the wiring diagrams I've acquired from different sources here:

http://tvr1.members.winisp.net/cerbwi

They're obviously not specific to a 2001 LW, but I don't recall hearing of any model changes to the fan circuit.

Hang in there matey. In all probability the exhaust, fans and gearshift will all have relatively easy and permanent solutions. The fuelling issue is more of a concern, but is probably going to take longer to diagnose than it will to fix IMO.

Another possiblity for the fans not switching in is corrosion to the connectors. If the gear knob is anything like it was in my Chim', the gear knob is threaded and there's also a threaded collar which means you can align where the gear knob locks in place (i.e. so 1 3 5 is at the front). Re. the idle being too high, it could be the stop which controls the position at which the butterflies stop, allowing just enough air through to let the engine idle. I'd call a UK indie, explain your situation and ask them for help. In terms of bills, I found I had a number of things to get on top of, but that once past that stage, the car only needs periodic attention and she's generally very solid. If you can get help, do as much as you can yourself and bear with it, I think you'll get in that position too. Good luck!

Steve.

Hi all...thanks so much for the help....really. It's much appreciated. I will take all of it on board and start the ball rolling.

Don: I received your email...will reply and I look forward to the diagram. Big help.

Very best

You do have the Cerbera ECU software on cd? If not, you really need it, it will tell you exactly what the ECU is seeing in real time and is invalauble for setting up the car. To see if your fans are ok, pull the coolant temp sensor, both the fans should then kick in.

Are you sure the garage haven't altered the setup? If they have they might have messed it up, if not then its likely your O2 sensor has gone. Either way the software will tell you. I don't mind sending a cd out to you if you need it. If you're worried about the bills mounting up maybe its time to go the DIY route and get your hands dirty, as it seems that no one out there knows the car intimitely enough.

Ermmmm... Kev if you mean me, I didn't send any email but the diagrams are all on the website. Nose harness one shows the fan terminals (Pink IIRC).

Kev,
Can you be a bit more specific about your gearlever problem? Is it loose from below the consul, just spinning around, floppy???
As my gearbox is out again (doing more work on my clutch) I can get to my gearlever easily and take a few pics.

I'm wondering, not sure if this could be the cause, just a guess, but if the garage broke a lambda sensor while doing your clutch this might be the cause of your flat spot and rich fuel smell.

I would also guess that the gear lever problem is also down to the garage/clutch work.

My bet for the fuel smell in the car would be the filler neck for the tank coming loose.

regrading the gear lever, had similar thing with an old mini used to own, one day the gear lever became loose so you could rotate it 360 degree. The shaft of the lever when through a hemispherical collar by which it located in the gearbox, the collar is splined and press on fit, simply located rod in collar in correct position then tacked it in place with an electric arc welder. Would guess the Cerb gear lever is very similar in principle.

Hi Mark: It is still conneted, as i can change gear...and below the consul it is spinning around.

Also, I do not have the Cerb ECU software CD...can it work on an Apple laptop? I do not have a PC....in any case, it's getting towed on the 26th to a TVR specialist i found on the TVRCC Japan site. SO hopefully this guy is going to have a lot more knowledge than the monkeys who have been fiddling with it so far.

Thanks again to all for the advice.

Sorry Don, it was Howard who sent the fuse diagram and shots. Much appreciated. It looks exactly like my fuse box, but with more cobwebs

Seasons Greetings

The ECU software won't run on a Mac. Needs to be a PC with a serial port. (!)

I believe some people have experimented with USB/serial adaptors. The ECU software is email-sized somebody will be able to forward it.

The gear lever problem is most likely where the lever shaft bolts onto the splined adaptor on top of the box, it passes through a c.bored hole with a big locknut on the bottom.

It'll be that lock nut which is loose,
getting to it is a major fag as you'll have to remove the exhaust and possibly the prop

The running problems sound like poor throttle pot set-up to me, so you'll need a carb-balancer and the software to fix this
