the restoration is progressing well, welder next week and then sand blasting, and i was having a think about painting the chassis.it will be coated with por 15 first but i was thinking of finishing it with a funky colour and was wondering if say normal car spray paint would put up with all the stuff that is thrown at the chassis. the por stuff is hard as a rock and inhibits rust but is u.v. sensitive.their topcoat only seems to come in black and i was'nt too keen on this.so i was looking for another product(cant be hammerite, reacts with por)as a finish.any thoughts?
cheers

Once you treat the chassis with a rust inhibitor, zinc or red oxide it. Any good quality enamal paint should be ok, even a radiator enamal will do it. the key to this is that it is vital to wax oil it to stop the air getting back to the rust as you will not be able to stop pin holes. once you go mad with the wax oil it should be ok. I painted mine with zinc and then hammerite but the bits I missed with the wax oil soon started to show very small pin spots of rust. these then had to be retreated and waxed again. My chassis is white and therefore great care was required as this shows the rust very quick.

good luck.
