Wasnt sure what sub-forum to put this in so forgive me if there is a more suitable one.

I have a 5 yr old Kia Sedona 2.9TD

It started to make a 'groaning' noise a bit like what rubber would do against shiny plastic as a rough description. It got quite loud now and a couple of people think the sterring is a bit heavy when first starting out though I havent noticed anything wrong in that department. Any ideas?

I've only had the car since late Summer-ish but it started it mildly about 2 months ago and has got a lot more noticable. I should say it only happens when turning the wheel fast - parking etc.. it feels like the noise is very close. Definately not engine bay - more like steering column.

try flushing and refilling with corect spec oil, this as worked on many an occasion over the years,i must say i normally dont recommend additives...but one i have used is FORTE power steering treatment and WOW this stuff works, noisy mitsubishi pajero PAS,yes tried the flush did not work untill i tried this product, ford mondeo groaning sound, flushed only slightly improved, customer returned car fitted said product 2 weeks later, that fault never returned,im not saying it works on every fault but i speak as i find, and that product works,i gather it is a super slippery friction beating additive, possibly why it gets the job done.

Sounds like its pulling air in! check for air in system/blocked filter etc. Look for damp areas on pipes, pump, rack, and joints etc, loose joints etc, correct oil! You need to sort it as it could lock up when parking or in tight turns! if no joy have pump checked out then the rack. If you feel its a job you can't do let a garage do it! Safety first mate every time! teacher
