Hi we had a 5dr td4 ES; it was a 4 month old demonstrator with 3000 miles on when purchased. As a family car it seemed good. Plenty of room neared 40mpg on a run.
But!!!!!!!!!!!
We only kept it around 3 months as it let us down with electrical gremlins.
On one occasion on the way back from our family holiday in France we were stranded in the middle of France on a Saturday afternoon. Land Rover rescue we fantastic as it was the weekend no Landy dealer open until Monday they flew us home, we actually got home quicker than we would have driving. They flew me down a week later to pick the car up.
With a young family I didn’t like the risks involved of these continual problems.

We had a 5 door TD4 HSE 2 years ago.

We did approx 10K miles in the car and I have to say it was faultless. The only criticism I can make and it is the same with the 2.D X3 (both cars used/use the same engine although tuned differently) is that there is a drop of in power when you dip the clutch. If your not careful it can stall which isn't helpful at a junction.

Ran a 05 Plate TD4 'Premium Sport' for a couple of weeks and I have to say I was quite impressed! (and I'm very anti LR products, based largely on quality of pre Ford products)

Drove well, in terms of ride and handling (had big factory fit wheels) could have done with a tad more power, but well screwed together, nothing broke or fell off, and heated seats and screen proved very useful and nice!

Just bought the new Freelander HSE... so far so good but to early to report anything, but it looks and feels top quality.

Had the Cerb next to the Freelander in the car park and must admit the silver Cerb and the black (blue black) Freelander looked great so will be updating a joint picture soon. Grass Widow is my other half and we both think the car is ideal for what we need.

Just had a TD4 Freelander as a loaner for 24 hours while the Disco 3 was in being fixed. Didnt like it. Had an auto box and found the engine struggling to get the thing moving at any rate at all. Im a shortarse but still managed to bang my head everytime I got into the thing without bowing my bonce. Found the interior to be very plasticy (ala Disco 2).

Was thinking of getting one for Mrs Fubes but not now (did have a poke round a Freelander 2 which looked much better quality inside). Have they changed the engines in the F2?

Hi Fubar, we bought the new Freelander 2 HSE manual. Plenty of go and I must admit it really is a nice vehicle with soul.

They had a couple at the dealership and I really like the look of them. Especially that orange colour yikes

If the all round improvement of the F2 over the F1 is anything like the Disco 3 is over the Disco 2, then it'll be a cracker

Just found one fault... the side steps are not side steps? Just been to the dealership to sort out a wobbly side step and just been told there not actually side steps for 600 quidish what the fu.k. They are not as firm as my old disco so they have been playing with them today to sort out the wobble and so far so good.

we've had our 2001 TD4 ES Auto for a couple of years

we've only done 10k miles in the car and it's now done 55k

gotta say that it's hugely exceeded my expectations as a dog, family, general dogsbody vehicle (wife wanted one against my better judgement initially)

reliable, spacious, reasonable capable on road (happy 80 cruise fully laden)

fuel consumption round about 30 but mostly town work

certainly get another (or maybe Disco)

bought car for £12k in 2004 and probably only worth about £7k now - gotta say it's worth more than that to me at the moment so plan to keep for a while

So I far I can report a big thumbup. This ford model x volvo x whatever is proving to be an ideal choice for the family and dog. Push it into those corners where the camber can be a pain and the Freelander 2 just takes it in its stride. Not cheap the HSE with all the add ons but well worth it so far.
