Help! This time of year really isn't a favourite of mine. Too many decisions... My dilemma is do i travel down south to do the usual family thing in the Chimaera 500 with new tyres (150 miles) or take the 4x4 (yawn)??? the weather is stuck in that uncertainty zone. Anyone else going away in their pride and joy this week?

I'm hopefully off to North Zomerzet this afternoon in my 500. The roads are dry, rain is not forecast for a while, fog is the downer. But this time of year, you need to grab the rare opportunities when they arrive! At leat in your 4x4 you'll have no concerns at all. But if i go this afternoon, I don't intend to be in my 406!

Whichever you decide, have a good trip.

Took the Griff (and girlfriend) to Slaley Hall Hexham, Newcastle for the weekend a few weeks ago. the idea being there are some fantastic roads around there. However the weather turned bad very bad and we crawled home in torrential rain. No fun at all and bit hair raising at times. But the drive up in summy weather was very good, so made up for it.
I guess this time of year its a lottery weather rise, but go in the Chim and give the car a good blast. Just be careful ;

Take the 4x4 and play it safe! Plenty of time next year to enjoy the TVR in better weather.

Have a good one.

Thanks for the positve vibes guys! Think my real worry is the the uncertainty of grip level from the new TOYO's. Plus these are sat on new 18" rims. So really uncertain how the car behaves at mo! Already done an unexpected 180 spin on a narrow country road and got away with it last week! Was one way of turning back and going home!!

If you've already done 150 miles on your new tyres, they should be pretty well scrubbed in. This time of year, the roads are never gonna be that trustworthy grip wise, so take it a bit easier. Think of it as a Grand Tourer rather than a balls out, fire breathing, out 'n' out monster and treat it accordingly!

I'm leaving mine in the garage. hooked up to the accumate, after a wash down to get rid of the salt from the recent driving on the frosty roads of the North.

Take the chim & enjoy the journey down. Be sensible with the right foot & you'll be fine.

Will give both motors a clean and prep for the journey. Think it's down to a last minute decision on weather forcast and how busy the motorway is. Both are highly inefficient with fuel!. But what if i get massive presents?? xmas Tardis TVR boot to the rescue!

All the best for Xmas beer

As much as I'd like to say otherwise I'd be inclined to agree with Thomo. Just been out in mine to my Dads place in Bishops Storford. Roads are greasy as hell, dry in places then all of a sudden slippery as an eel.
Also, don't Toyos take 500 miles or so to fully bed in? It may not be quite as exciting in the 4x4 but at least it'll be safer. You won't get the Chim up to any decent speeds anyway.

don't bother with Chim. See the PM i sent you. Forgot to mention what ZIPPEE said about the toyo proxy's I have them on mine too and teckon that was partly the problem. They had cobvered only a couple of hundred miles.
So keep CHIMP in BED
Take 4 x 4 and have your self a merry safe xmas
All the best

Again, thanks alot everyone. The decision is made. It's the 4x4! Completely agree with Max. Not much fun to had out in the old girl anyway with my tyres and the great weather... It's out with the XBOX driving

Merry Xmas!

p.s is it just me or does it just feel like any other week? The Christmas spirt is lacking this year!

Go with what you feel comfortable with. The Proxes are great tyres but the bedding-in process can take a few hundred miles and can be quite disconcerting (especially at first when the slip release agent's still coming off).

Go on your own in the TVR and get the family to follow fifteen minutes later in the 4x4 complete with spares.

Do you know Ricardo, that would almost be funny if it hadn't been used 5 million times before.

Happy trolling!

I would take the 4x4. got stuck in a heavy snow storm the other year in my chim, not a nice trip. very tricky to keep on the road even at slow speeds with good tyres.
Play it safe and wait for the summer ;-)

Just passin' through here, I had a Chimaera (not a bloody chimp) for three years and used it every day, rain, snow, ice, or even in the sunny weather. What a load of woosies you lot are "leave it at home and take the 4x4". GET OUT AND ENJOY YOUR TVR!
