Mr B suggests that the reduction in North Wales road deaths in 2005 was due to his Arrive Alive campaign. He forgot to mention that in 2006, that figure had been equalled by November, suggesting the 2006 death toll will be higher.

Paul is on the case, it's another KSI 'SI' fudge mixed with normal statistical variation. It only needs one good year (by chance and/or by fix) for the spin machine to kick into overtime.

Can you give me reference for that, please? And any info about December road deaths to date.

It came from the PPP in Wales Paul. I believe you are in touch with them. If not let me know.

This is a a copy of a letter from the Arrive Alive chief showing 37 deaths to end October 2006 v 42 for the whole of 2005. Still two months to go at that stage.

Begins:

Thank you for your enquiry and I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the delay in my response.

I understand that you have requested the exact number of road deaths in North Wales from January 1st 2006.

I can inform you that there has been a total of 37 fatal road deaths between 1st January 2006 and the end of October 2006. However, these figures are provisional because of the 30 day rule and depending on the result of ongoing collision investigations.

Yours sincerely,
