Handbrake handle

Hello,
I've just got myself a shiny new handbrake handle, but I'm dammed if I can get the old black plastic one off. It only seems to be secured at the bottom, but I can't see any screws or anything. Am I missing something obvious, or is it just a case of brute force and twisting? Any tips would be much appreciated.

Hairdryer / gentle hot air gun... Heat helps
