Encounter With a Lambo Diablo!!
Discussion
The Monaro held its head high today!! Had a spirited drive between roundabouts with a Diablo this afternoon. Much to my surprise the Monaro (not to put too fine a point on it) kicked his ass!! The Lambo looked the business, sounded the busness and tried very hard, but the Monaro had him about 10 seconds after leaving the rounabout. He just pulled over and waved me through.

Well done
A Monaro is the car for long fast trips. I've just done a long Newcastle to Stansted trip in it and it was a superb journey. the traffic was light, plenty of bursts up to speed, the acceleration that the 'ro has between gears is awesome, I did it in a tad over 4 hrs
I rekon the '04 cv8's handle better with a boot full of luggage too (or fuel..) more grip
I think my next upgrade will have to be the vxr suspension!

Is a Monaro really quicker than a Diablo?
Really?
To be honest, Ive no idea! That day we both got going very quickly away from a roundabout. I cannot say in this public forum what speed I was doing..... but I remained wedged in his bumcheeks all the way up, then he pulled over and slowed. Perhaps he was just being more sensible than me. But that does`nt make for such a good tale. I am sure I`ve heard somewhere the monaro`s performance being compared to a Lambo. Anyway I compared mine with his and mine was not found wanting! Monaro rules OK! Big ColReally?

Thats the trouble tho.
The Lambo is technically the quicker car but as soon as they put the power down something breaks. Whats the point of having a car that cannot deliver what it promises?

Bit like a VXR500 then?
Sure, they're probably more idiosynchratic than the Audi produced ones but they aren't that unreliable.
Facts & figures from here www.internetautoguide.com/car-specifications/09-int/1999/lamborghini/diablo/index.html
In stock trims:
A Diablo weighs 1600kg, is a 5.7l V12, produces 530bhp & 450ft/lb.
A Monaro weighs about the same, produces about 350ish bhp and around 400ft/lb and probably has higher gearing.
A Monaro will not be quicker under any circumstances where the drivers are equally on the ball.

Figures can tell many a tale!!!
Think top gear had a Murcialago vs an Evo, power to weight etc etc all would have the Lambo stuff it, it didnt!! Power is nothing without control, and ability.
PS
You know you want a 500, your just jealous of not being involved in the fights!!!

We have you '200' badges in stock now.

I think a demo is in order
Mine is a VT 4WD 6 litre with 550 BHP / 457 ft lbs Torque, no problems except the clutch in 3 years. It is far less trouble than Ferraris. I guarantee that any EVO, (I also have an RCD tuned 400 BHP EVO 6), or HSV / Monaro will NOT live with it except top speed from a seriously tuned V8. My HSV has a faster top speed but no comparison in A to B driving in my experience. The EVO is bike-quick but once again no contest.
I will say however that my HSV and EVO (except EVO top speed) are quicker than any flat-plane V8 Ferrari.
