Hi guys, first post, have a 997 GT3 on the way, and dealer wants final spec thinking:
Meteor Gray
Xenons
Buckets
Clubsport
Satnav
Sound Upgrade
Carbon Trim
Chrono
Phone
Question is on the buckets - as my porsche dealer has not got any GT3 soon with them in, i cannot try them out, how comfy will they be for say a 2 hour motorway trip?
Saw a thread earlier on this, but it kinda seemed to say 5'10 - 6' and slim then OK, otherwise a nono.....which didnt sound too plausible for a german car maker....
Also - the roll cage, does anyone know if its possible to remove it, ie get the cage, and without too much hassle take it out. I kinda need the space in the back to put sttuff now and then.

Comfort massage seats and wood trim?

Dont listen to them Artic - they're only jealous.
I'm gettin sat nav for when i go to the 'Ring in 2009!
You could always swap your seats at a later date and pocket some cash - i'd have thought the CF buckets would be worth more than the standards?
When is your baby due then?

Carbon trim? Sound Upgrade? Sure it's not a lardy turbo?
But seriously, if the buckets are like the 996 GT3's they are very comfy for most people. Not sure about taking the rear bit of the cage out though - would think it would be a bit of a pain - perhaps the CS spec is not really the best choice for you.
Wow your spec is identical to mine, except:
White
no phone
no chrono (no need unless you want the clock and some lap timing)
Sat-Nav is a great asset to the car whilst adding no significant weight. I see the Rohl brigade are out again...
Not sure if you can easily remove the rear roll cage as it comes like that from factory. Will ask tomorrow as I'm going in to see mine at the showroom.

I've seen the small carbon trim and it looked pretty smart to me, plus it adds a GT3 logo onto the handbrake.
Sorry but I've actually gone for the 'really heavy' adaptive seats, found they seemed to give a little more legroom than the normal ones so it had to be done !!
Welcome to the forum ArticM
Regarding your question about the bucket seats I would suggest that you contact your OPC and ask them to arrange a Porsche driving experience for 997 GT3. When I did it earlier this month ( and I assume that is the only car they have available at the moment) it had bucket seats (and PCCB among other things). I was in the car for 1 hour (supposed to be 2 but was late due to traffic on M25) split ca 20 min on the road to test track and 40 min driving on track. Compared to the normal seats on my 996 turbo they'd give you a lot more support when going fast in bends and from the comfort point of view I must say I was expecting to be totally knackered when stepping out at the end and while driving which wasn’t the case at all. I guess what they say about the car being easy to live with both on the road and on the track compared to the previous generations are true. Btw I am a short ass at 5’7. Only you can tell how you would feel in them so make the dealer arrange a test drive for you as it is possible now. The car is just amazing!
Congrats on the new car and enjoy!

Welcome Artic, Meteor : - Superb colour (and most likely the colour I'll go for)
Sat Nav : - You can go a long way in the wrong direction at 190mph !
Phone : - Why not ?
Seats : - I've not tried them (but I tried the buckets in the M3 CSL and didn't like them) my MK1 GT3 had the buckets fitted, I "tolerated" them with some extra padding to raise my torso (and thus shoulders) to a more comfortable position. As previously suggested, I'd get yourself a decent long roadtest in a car fitted with them before commiting to them.

a warm welcome indeed
meteor gray - looks good and i dont have countless hours to spend washing car....which ruled out the white and yellow
as for satnav and phone - why not (wallet aside)??? they add no weight, you get all the performance and are useful when just driving

Any time spent reading this forum should have disabused you of the notion that you might get a warm welcome.
If you've got 85k to spend on a car, surely you've got £5/week to get someone to wash it for you? Meteor is a great colour, but I don't think it's a great GT3 colour. Cobalt would be better I think. Halfway house between keep-cleanable and look-goodable.
tks for info, some useful, some not
looks fantastic in those photos, def going for this colour, with that and carbon trim + buckets its medical instrument equiv will be a scapel
if the buckets really dont fit, as you say can always sell/horde them and find some that do.
gonna be a long 10 weeks....!

The whole thing with cars are they are subjective and emotive and so all a matter of opinion so if you ask for one you are going to get different answers!!!....plus you learn quickly on here to take the light hearted ribbing you will get whatever you post.
Don't worry about it artic...you're getting a new GT3 so why the hell would you care!!
At least wetwipes post answered all your queries in full
Goes off to remove head from arse....
First of all, welcome to the forum!
Re your question: The buckets in the 997 are quite different from the ones used in the 996, so you need to test the real thing.
Don't worry about the comments on colour and stanav. As you didn't go for a tip or savannah leather you're still on the safe side...

OK I sat in my car today.
I'm about 85kg and about 5'6" - so I'm not skinny by a long shot, but I'm not a lard arse either, despite what my friends may say
The seats were fine, but I will admit that extended use will be the ultimate test and until I pick it up on Tuesday, I'll have no idea.
The sat nav looks great, here are my pics from today.
Crap pictures sorry but oh boy I was too excited!
