WED1E !!!!! No ignition light ???

Put brown/yellow wire back on, light now works but does not go out when engine running, goes slightly dimmer and gets brighter when the revs rise ?? is the alternator, or something in the alternator fuackered ?? The volt meter says its charging OK !!

Does it stay on (dim) with engine not running? If so could be the diode pack in the dizzy, this will drain the battery over time. Maybe just need to tighten the fan belt?

No dicky, its on full bore and the goes dim when the engine is running and gets brighter with revs, cant understand it, got 2 spare alternators so will change it and see what happens
it sounds like you have a faulty regulator in the alternator and the previeous owner just disconected the wire to stop the light comming on. check with a multi meter if the alternator is charging about 14v, if so and the car is running ok it's up to u if u change it you just wont have the warning light.
also if the light stops on when the key is removed it will drain the battery over night
the light works when the alternator is being turned a poss out of the alternator throw the bulb to a earth so bulb on
when the alternator is statick there wire out of the alternator is going to earth so both sides of the bulb are to earth so bulb out

Sounds like the last owner sold you a bad one.. first the battery now this.. when the ex owner got his money - did me slam and double lock his door

He tells me he stood on the pavement, with his hanky and listened to me untill I got to the M4.
Still cant believe my luck in buying such a rare beast, its a better feeling than when I got my first Wedge.
Anything I am doing to the car is just winter maintenance, and me getting away from Big Brother.
