Got an old school Xbox currently (plus a decent PC for games), fancy upgrading my console, so which to go for ?

I don't have a HDD tv, nor am I planning to get one yet, so would I notice the better graphics of the 360 ?

360 for more choice of regular game and that next gen look and feel, Wii for a laugh
and novelty factor.
If you want next gen graphics for example, go look at the Wii version
of far cry, even the original Xbox version looks nicer.
It will offer bags of fun though, for how long i couldn't really
say.

As for the 360 and HD tv's, just do as i did and get a VGA lead to run it on your
PC monitor if you want.It can be set up to play at any resolution you should need

first off id just like to say that i think this whole "real life graphics" fad is a huge joke.

anyways....

go try out the wii for yourself first. it really is the only next-gen console imo. the motion sensor gameplay provides for excellent fun but can be a bit off a turn-off if you cant stand waving your hands about all the time. The wii is also more of a party system and is much more fun to play with a bunch of blokes than by yourself.

the 360 on the other hand is basically a xbox with better graphics, so i fail to see the point of buying one. if you want real life graphics just go look out the window.

And if you want real life tennis, bowling, fishing etc etc with friends, forget the Wii and go
join a few clubs.

where as those are actually interactive in the whole video games are supposed to be fun sense, rather than the whole lets do the same thing we've been doing for years except throw in better graphics.

The idea behind the Wii controler is nothing new.
From power gloves, dance and football mats, light guns
and golfing machines, it's all variation on a theme
simply brought bang up to date and made available to
the masses.
Technology has progressed in those departments that's all,
just as it has with the graphics, sound and multiplayer
capabilities on other consoles.
The concept behind it all has been around since the 70's.

You make it sound as though people would be happy to
have atari vcs graphics on a golf game for example so
long as they can hit the ball by swinging a controller.

I just feel that telling a gamer to look out of a window
instead of purchasing a 360 is a tad limited in terms of
useful information i guess.

Buy both as they are 2 different genre's (if that's the right word) of consoles. 360 is a more traditional games console (well media station if you want too) whereas a Wii is more new, and interactive. I don't have a Wii as I don't have the room to dance around in front of one.

360 costs a lot more than the Wii even now. Currently it'll be hard to find a Wii until after new years and even then they will sell out quick.

Like said, they are two different ways to game. I have a Wii and only 3 games currently; Wii Sports (Comes with the Wii), Redsteel (moving around gunning people down game) and Need For Speed Carbon.

Racing wise the Wii is easy to use and just takes getting used to. It's more a different way of driving to get used to rather than something to make do with.

If you like games like Tony Hawks and Halo, I don't think these will ever be as good on the Wii, I'm not 100% sure yet but I think these will be harder to play as there is not two joysticks, although the Numchuck (plugs into bottom of Wii controller) has a joystick on it.

I have herd rumours of more things similar to a Numchuck becoming available like a gun or similar. So these games may become easier to play.

Personally I play certain games on the PC online and certain games on a console. Try out the Wii before you buy, or if you can get hold of one, try it, hate it, sell it for the same if not more money.

Er No:

Xbox 360 Core Package + 1 Game £199.99 from Gamestation
Wii + 1 Game £209.99 from Gamestation

So no it doesnt cost 'a lot more' it is actually cheaper!

I suppose if you want to be accurate about these things you'd have to say that actually it's:

Wii plus 1 Game (Wii Sports)= £179.99.

So in fact the Wii is cheaper than the 360.

why bother looking out the window when you can have scenes like this on your tv

(i know its for the PS3 but the are the most real life graphics i've ever seen)

^What he said^

I however do have room to jump around infront of one so I have got one. They are great fun and completely different to the 360. As it stands I leave the 360 to one side when my mates come around so we can all play the wii, failing that I am always on the 360.

I sold my 360, and bought a Wii. I wish i hadnt bothered. The Wii is great fun, but lacks the depth of the 360. Dont tell the wife though, she really loves the Wii!

Surely that is nothing to do with the console, more the games you play on it?

If I've got a Toshiba 32 LW something or other LCD TVR and a 360, whats the best connection lead available at the moment?

Is there a HD cable for the 360 yet?

Thanks

^ this is the optional lead you want if you have a VGA socket on your LCD screen

if not , microsoft also do a 'component' lead that is ,some say ,just as good

usually comes with the 360 package

The Premium 360 comes with a component lead for up to 1080P high def, if you've got the core system you'll have to buy it separately.

You can also buy a SVGA cable and use that instead at the same resolutions if your TV/Monitor supports it, I've found that you get a slightly better picture using this over the component cable.

Dunno if they'll ever bring out a HDMI cable out for it but I suppose it doesn't really matter.
