Quick question.

Travelling east on A55 just before Conwy today and noticed a van with the usual two camera windows at the rear as I came over the brow. At the time I was just over a 100MPH negotiating a safe path past a day tripper who decided he needed to "match me at all my monouvers albeit to hinder me".

Sure I was caught so continued on my journey with a hint that I may be dealing with a possible ban in coming future!

About a mile down the road there was a clutch of panda cars parked safely over the solid white running alongside the road. Expecting one of these to be radioed of my misdeed and attempt to flag me down I was surprised that neither did.

Looking for any idea on how one of the ambushes work. Could it be possible that the tallivan was doing the old tax/MOT check or can they do both checks (speed and mot/tax) or does it all become automatic and the squad knew no need to speak to me as I with be dealt with alternatively?

Luckily this sounds like ANPR, so you may live to drive another day . Keep a watch out for those scamvans!

Not sure about ANPR kit but apparently at 156 speed cameras don't work, so it looks like one fifty five minimum

This depends; it seems as if the overtaken was speeding up to make things awkward. I've experienced the r_sole who doesn't like to be overtaken, often when alongside when they speed up, the best thing to do is give it some and get past as quickly as possible - much safer. (Sadly, of course camera vans will often be placed just where you finally get a chance to overtake a queue creator.)

I know I know......I'm normally a calm 70-80Mph person but this gentleman and his little Cleo just couldn't accept I wanted to get past him when he was at approx. 50mph so decided to try out pacing me, what was he thinking? I would have thought a powerful looking Audi would have had him shaking at the kness at the very thought!

I kept it as nice as possible and crept my speed up slowly rather than flooring it, wish I'd done that now.....I would have backed off by the time I got to the brow.

The up side it that he'd be got as well and looking at his age he's probably damming himself + the added ear bashing from his lovely wife.

Two windows in the back definitely sounds like ANPR, and a squad of Pandas down the road confirms it...
