You've got 2 days yet!

Quick! Go and have another booze surge!

[hehe Sorry!]
Not a bad effort so far to say you've started a bit early.. and good luck of course.

Not yet, but will quit for Jan. Well, apart from my 30th whcih is next week.

Will also be giving up ciggies, and have been to the gym for the past 2 days (and planning on going today too).

2007 goals - lose weight. Get fit.

Not dissimilar to million of other people, I guess.

Not really! my dads an alcoholic so have my reasons and it seems this *trait* is built into your DNA... and don't want to end up there...

Seems my whole family are piss artists...

Anyway it's a good challenge :-)

Hey Superkarter, I'm a recovering drunk and on May 14th it will be 6 years without a drop for me, I don't miss it one bit as it made my life a living hell.

I applaud your efforts! If your father is an alcoholic then there is a good chance that you will become one if you continue drinking, so good for you to make the decision to stop and best of luck to you...

Cheers and well done chap!!

Yes this is my fear!! it starts with a *few* beers a night and 20 years down the line.... well you know first hand :-), anyway I've had plenty of good nights on the Pi*s!! so can't say I've missed out :-)

To be honest it's quite hard! over Christmas everyone was taking the pi*s! not the giving up bit but people expecting you to drink!

Also received half an outdoor in booze as presents..... doh

I gave up crisps for last New Year. I gave up chocolate half way through this year and it's going to be my New Years resolution this year too. I'm going to try to start running too.

Well done, and Trooper2. My ex has severe alcohol related issues, gave up once in a bid to help him, around 18 months passed without so much as a Sherry Trifle. Alas, he has fallen by the wayside, me well...I drink when I'm happy, and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink when I'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I am not hungry and drink when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty.

Good luck in your quest, may your livers be forever thankful.

I stopped drinking nearly six months ago and like SuperKartracer had consumed each day for many years. Frequency not quantity was the problem.

Best thing that I ever did (stopping that is!). I now sleep deeply through the night and the lack of drink has helped me lose over a stone in 5 months. More money in my pocket too.

Yep, I'm stopping in the new year.

One drink doesn't exist anymore and I've pissed up a lot of money in the last 6 months. I'm going totally tea total

I just can't understand why anyone would consume alcohol?

I have been offered many times and have plainly refused and I will continue to do so. Waste of money.

Perhaps its a form of escapism

The Cambridge Dictionarry definition of escapism is "when someone avoids an unpleasant or boring life, especially by thinking, reading, etc. about more exciting but impossible activities"

I prefer the definition of escapism I read while back wich was "Escapism is the tendency to seek distraction and relief from reality"

I always wanted to build a hot rod, Ford Model A 1931 Tudor with a 350ci chevy and call it Escapism because it would be my escape from the world of boring cars

Some of us enjoy the taste. I don't enjoy getting pi55ed or the side effects. If there was a non alcholic drink that is likely to satisfied my tastes like Guinness then tell me all about it. I hate coke and all that fizzy muck, that in my opinion is a waste of money.

Cause it's like, fun.

Think I might try and cut it out in the week a bit though.
