Car battery was dead yesterday.

Great fun getting it going with the various alarms and immobilisers that my insurance insisted upon. Normal jump starting would not work as the Sigma alarm complained about the voltage(?) through cheap jump leads and kept the immobiliser on. AA eventually got it going with very heavy duty jump leads...

The reason for the dead battery seems to have been that I had left the headlights switched on but I am not convinced as I did not notice the lights??? As the car is at the front of my house I would normally have noticed or an eagle eyed neighbour would have told me.

Also I have noticed that the wipers keep going if I accidentally leave them on when I lock the car - is that normal?

Is there a way of switching off all of the electrics when you leave the car? Or getting a reminder beep or something?

Thanks for any ideas

Paul

My lights turn themselves off about 30 seconds after turning off the ignition. It's probably something you can change if you scroll through the options on the computer. (I might even get around to reading the manual one day! rolleyes)

Mine turn off too. Best car I've had actually for not getting flat batteries with leaving things on. Perhaps battery is knackered?

I think the auto off may only work if one uses the auto on thing (if you see what I mean)

As rocket says - the accessories (i.e. stereo/wipers etc) can be told to shut off automatically via the options menu - mine is set to switch off on door open, which does the trick as that means when you turn her off and get out the car the gear shuts down

Same here - when I get out of the car after turning it off, everything turns off as I open the door, presumably design/programming!

HOWEVER,

There was a thread on here around a month/6weeks ago re the radiator fan going on for longer than the owner thought necessary. I now confirm his thoughts - my fan(s) turn on as the temp nears 'Normal' & STAY ON until I turn everything off & remove the key! Any thoughts..?(& I don't mean to hijack the thread, sorry!)

Thanks for the advice.

I don't see how the lights auto off/on would affect the wipers...

I will fiddle with the options later.

Thanks Paul

Be careful though. I had a problem on my commmodore where the switch was sticking and it wasn't turning the lights off when i opened the door. Just make sure that the switch is ok. Mine had a bit of a build up of rubbish on it..

The lights on and accesories options (stereo/wipers etc) are different options in the menu
