fast road car! I've just driven the Litchfield Imports latest Type25.Nearly a day later I'm still trying to get over it.It was shockingly, brutally, savagely gob-smackingly fast, can't quite get my head round it all.I've owned 4 TVRs with times of approx 9-10secs to 100mph, a Noble 3R (9secs)the HSV ( 12 secs ish)and driven loads of fast cars like VXR500,550,Gransport,996 turbo,RS4 etc etc etc. Nothing prepared me for this.It was even discreet with no chavvy spoilers stickers or the like and frankly handled like nothing on earth in my very average hands. So why didn't I buy it straight away? Can't work out it yet.Was it cos it's not got more than 4 cyls?,image?, looks?, interior?, still puzzled cos as an everyday road car it did everything.......ideaor because I still can't get the VXR 6 litre bargains out of my head!

That's the Imprezza isn't it?

Must say, that looks like one amazing car for good money too.

Yep, thats the one, about £40K for the latest version, also drove a 2005 model but the new one was incredible. Been down twice now and seem like a good straightforward bunch of guys. The first road car that I've shouted out an expletive when it accelerated!
Very tempted.

But,

Would it be bullet proof in terms of reliability like the good old V8?

Always fancied one myself but hear they can be quite roublesome?

Regards whats one worth after 12 months...........I also drove a 2005/54 model( so nearly 2 years old) with 22000miles and that was priced at 25 grand, for a car (previous model) that was £34K new. Litchfield don't do discounts or part-ex but from some research sell every car that they build. Also during a chat with a Subaru dealer he admitted that a type-25 would hold its value better than the new RB320!

Edited because its very late, I've cleaned the kitchen and all guests have gone asleep after wine tasting!

An Evo 9GT is around £24k otr newly imported to a good spec. Suspension is £2k brakes £1k WRC 420 package is £3445 totalling just over £30k. This is for a car that drives better, looks better and performs equally as well.

Worth considering

With respect that either sounds like an advert or if not "looks better" and "drives better" are purely subjective.

They do a fast Subaru, the Litchfield guys. The Litchfield/Powerstation team won this years TimeAttack series.

Not quite the same car as you were looking at though...

SJC I agree that my comments were subjective. My aim was really to draw attention to how inexspensively a similar performance could be extracted from an Evo. The car Ian markets is without doubt well set up but is IMHO c£8k too expensive

Fair comment but if it's £8K too expensive then people won't buy it.It's a lot of money for a Scooby, or not a lot for one of THE quickest allround road cars out there(of that I have little doubt). What appealed to me over and above the performance was what a thoroughly thought through package it seemed, not just a few bolt on bits to make it go fast,(not suggesting yours isn't,send me details by all means!)And of course a blue-printed Cosworth engine helps it's kudos.
Still keeping options open for a cheap 6 litre VXR though.

Sounds like an awesome piece of machinery sjc, do you know any of the vital statistics (0-60, 0-100, top end)? For sheer performance I think the Scooby's and Evo's are the cheapest and best things out there, however don't discount the Monaro; it may not have the point to point aggression and speed that the Jap cars have (you can still make it pretty f'ing fast) but it has that one over-riding and all important factor - soul - which is the reason most people on here probably bought it. You are a lucky man to be in this dilema

Edited: found the figures, 3.7 to 60, 8.7 to 100, restricted to 157 but could go to 175.

'The type-25 now laps quicker than the 996 GT3 RS and Ferrari F430 around a circuit. It also proved faster than a 997 Turbo running track tyres around the high speed Snetterton circuit further proving the level of performance the type-25 has as a complete package.' eek

There you go! Another thing I liked on the particular version I drove was that it was based on an "A-Line spec."so it had a slightly nicer interior, bit of Alcantara etc. and not so hardcore. Still not nice inside but a bit better than the STi versions. Stramgely I drove a UK STi the day before as a comparision and absolutely hated the thing, couldn't see the appeal at all!

Its only cossie pistons correctly sized in standard 2500 Subaru crankcases allied to a better crank & bearings. Not "Rocket science" £2800 or so direct from Cosworth I believe.

Agreed it is a nice package and Ian is fortunate to be able to stabilise the prices etc and has improved the 2006 car over the 2005 car with the 996 brakes etc.

Just seems a fortune for a Subaru.

and no matter how fast it is you're still going to have to go buy a Burberry hat to match the instant chav effect you get when you own a Scooby. I always preferred the Evo myself but couldn't actually ever see myself driving one when I saw the typical owners at the local cruises.
