Speedo malfunction

My speedo takes till 20mph to start registering and also drops to 0mph when slowing down any ideas?

Mine won't register until about 25mph and then starts reading correctly, but continues to work Ok down to zero. I think this is due to sticktion in the speedo head first thing in the morning.
Yours sounds like it may be the sensor on the rear axle.
Check the gap at the sensor tip is about 9 thou' to the half shaft and there is no crud around the tip.
