Does anyone know where the gearbox filler hole is on the T5 box (1998 Chim 400)? I have searched the forum but cant find an answer, and the Bible is very vague on this. Also, the last service receipt states "Dexron3 g/box oil" was used - is this 75/90?

Cheers guys.

I have not done this on a Chim, but on a Cosworth I had years back I changed the gearbox oil. So, at the risk of making an assumption (they're both T5s although different ratios), the filler plug is at the forward end of the box (nearest the bellhousing) on the drivers side at the top. IIRC it was a 3/8 socket - plug yer rachet straight in - space dependent of course.

Cheers Nick - I'll go and see if I can find it. The Bible says the oil should be level with the bottom of the hole, it seems to be referring to the Borg Warner - not the T5, but I assume it means they are the same for both (?!)

Belting picture 900ss, my mistake then, I thought the filler plug was higher up than that.

nigel, its easy to get at please make sure car is level when filling, the good thing about dexron fluids is its very thin so even in this weather its easy to use,if you buy two litres in bottles (more than enough)you will have the little flexi hoses to get it into the filler hole,i am using Dexron III better quality(you can use II) it works a treat.Oh as the others said fill till it starts overflowing from filler hole, make sure you can undo filler before you drain.

Cheers guys - that's excellent. Not going to be that easy to get the car level without ramps though!

Thinking about it, the easiest (though slightly wasteful) way to ensure the correct level without access to ramps would be to jack/axle stand the car from the drivers side, drain/refill oil, and then slowly lower the car to the ground without the filler plug. The excess oil added due to the tilt would then run out into a bowl. Then jack the car back up and refit the filler plug. Does that make sense?

I also noticed that after Dexron 3 g/box oil on the TVR Power receipt it stated ATF. Assume this is therefore actually Automatic Transmission Fluid.... I seem to remember reading somewhere that this was often used.
