Factory Workers - Get Over It
Discussion
All this guff from the factory workers, nothing lasts for ever. Companies have to be dynamic, they have to evolve with the times, there is no such thing as a job for ever these days. Look when I picked my new TVR up last year the gear stick fell off in my hand, did David Oxley install that gear stick, NO a factory worker did, If the factory workers put the cars together correctly in the first place TVR would probably be selling more cars.

Good theory,
yet it is the VERY same factory workers who maaged to build 2000 cars a year, in the most successful period of tvr...
If parts aren't dleivered to the factory, or they are delivered sub-standar, you can't blame the chap screwing it together, you have to ultimately blame the managment/owner of the business.

Also wasn't the Tuscan 2 that the quality was soo much better? I seem to remember NS stopping production of these until the quality was improved and they were right!
The gear stick was always a bad design & everyone knew that if you didn't loctite them enough they would always come off.
I can't believe you can condone the way the workers are being treated?
So your gear stick came off - GET OVER IT!

Exactly - Not enough loctite or no loctite as the case maybe - shoddy workmanship. TVR have always had a reputation for quality issues, that same workforce has been bodging for years, out with the old and in with our new Italian brothers.
My 98 griff was very well screwed together- had it from new - (AND THEY WERE MUCH BUSIER THEN)
And from the demonstrators I've driven recently, there doesn't seem to be any difference in quality, ie both good.....
After all the cars are essentialy identically built..
steel tube chassis, independent suspension hung off it, grp tub, non stressed grp body shell bolted on, trimmed with leather, vinyly and carpet... the manufacturing techniques are identical, now and 10 years ago..

I think you will find that it is firstly a design issue, and secondly the guy that passed your car for quality - ooh wait that was management saying good enough get it out!
You haven't got a clue, I worked in the service department and we spent 90% of our time on warranty issues. If the factory management wanted to do something about quality they had all the warranty data to act on and thus allow the service dept to have more paying customers, maybe even make a profit
and I'm sure the factory would have benefited from reducing all thewarranty payments to dealers.
You can't blame the workforce RESPONSIBILITY is with the ones who have the power

Have a great '96 Chimaera 400 now done over 120,000 miles, only ever problem, was me leaving the lights on once and getting a flat battery.
Build quality perfect.
Every car maker has quality problems, none is perfect, TVR quality issues in the past have been mainly down to one main issue which coming back, those who buy and park the car in the garage and drive it only 4 - 6 months in the year. A car is built to be drive not parked up. A car parked up will have problems more than a car which is driven. Look at how many high milage cars have no problems compared to those with little or no miles.
Get a grip and the workers have done a great job over the years, its a real shame we don't have them doing it any more.
Happy New Year to all the Factory Workers and Dealer staffs round the country.
I hope 2007 is better for all of you.

If a worker isn't given adequate time or the correct tools whose fault is that? if a worker points out a design flaw and is ignored whose fault is that? if a part is sourced too cheaply whose fault is that, if a QA check is waived whose fault is that? if any interaction between the shop floor and management is absent whose fault is that? if product development is done without adequate consultation whose fault is that?
There's a shedload more to delivering a product than the guy at the coalface

Many mangers do not communicate very well with the workforce and there then becomes a “them” and “us” situation – lack of morale and respect grows and everything suffers.
Also if someone becomes the MD and you know what he did (or didn’t do in the past) then things break down. Often it is better to bring in a completely new person to shake a company up.
I remember seeing a certain person in his previous role getting cars that had not been fully finished out for delivery – if you have someone like this pushing the workforce to rush then what do you expect. If you give this type of “manager” a boost up the ladder the only thing that will grow is his ego and not profit, production, morale, skills etc etc
And more importantly communication between workforce and management breaks down – if you don’t have this you may as well give up.

I had a really bad Christmas, so I thought I'd have a pop at some people who probably had a worse Christmas than me.
One day (according to your original post) you will probably be in the same boat as the TVR workers. Let's just hope that your employer doesn't treat you in quite the same way as the highly skilled and dedicated TVR workforce has been treat.
[irony]By the way Merry Christmas, and I do hope that YOU have a happy new year ![/irony]
Been watching all the Factory related threads for a while now, and agree with the OP. It`s very unfortunate, but sh!t happens. Move on. Whingeing and whining about it will make no difference. Whatever the reasons behind your unemployment, it`s immaterial - you are (or soon will be) out of work.
If there was a forum called "Ordinary Blokes with Two Kids and A Millstone Mortgage" I could be on there all the time complaining about the three times I have been put out of work, but there isn`t so I dont. I just got my head down, found a new job and started again. Thats what life is all about. When you do get a new job, check the wall every now and then - if you see any writing on there, act on it! Don`t just sit there like a rabbit in the headlights waiting for the inevitable.
Having said all that, workers who lost their jobs do have my sympathies. As I said, I`ve been there & done that. It`s not the end of the world though - I wish you all the best of luck in finding new employment.
