Problem 4.5 Cerbera

Hi, advice required please. I am finding it difficult to get the car in gear. Reverse is impossible without "crunching" it. There is a " black oily water" type leak. Is this a clutch or gear box problem? Excuse my ignorance, but mechanics is not my strong point! Thanks.

yeah if the black watery stuff is coming out under the bellhousing then it's a slave cylinder leak unfortunately

had the same problem - slave cylinder busted up - you're about to be 600 quid lighter off.... sorry mate!

Just sold my leftovers on ebay, complete with bellhousing only made £50, still got the clutch if you need, plus starter and all the pumps.

No e-mail as yet, i have pics of the clutch if you want to try again. Its a late 97 car if that helps too.

Are you putting it into a fwd gear before engaging reverse?

Fluid in reservoir appears ok, but something is definitely leaking! Sorry to sound thick, but what is the "bellhousing"?
Tried putting it in a forward gear first, but this does not help!
Looks like my first major repair bill coming up. Had the car approx. 9 months, so not done too bad!1?

The bellhousing mates the gearbox to the back of the engine, it also contains the clutch and the slave cylinder where it appears your gremlins are hiding. Its likely to be your slave cylinder if you have leaks, it could also be the clutch centre itself. Worth looking at if your in there anyway.

Do you know where the reservoir is? Its not the same one used for the brakes, its the one you have to remove the glued down cover in the wing to get to. Just so you know which one to check.

Just in case...

Its the one with the white cap near the top of the pic.
You need to remove the 'bat wing' to be able to see it, the the cover is held in place with mastic and 2 screws.

Thanks for your help everyone. I am learning! All I need now is someone to fix it for me! Any ideas? I live in Derby. Peter Smith Sports Cars are local, but I assume they charge a lot!?

I've just bled mine. I took the air intake off to get a better access to assist getting the mastic off cleanly

Finally looked in the correct place thanks to the above photo. Res is full! What could be the problem then? Need to get it looked at really by someone! Taking it to Sportmotive at Stoke. Anybody used them?

or fingers on the clutch?

Does the pedal feel normal? If it sinks to the floor then its the slave, seeing as there is fluid under the centre of the car. If the pedal feels ok then its the fingers on the clutch.
