After some roadworks in my village there's a spurious "SLOW" sign left up and a hi-vis vest stapled to an adjacent telegraph pole. The old vest blew off or was taken down but has been replaced by a new one.

Clearly one of the nearby inbreds has decided to take matters into his own hands and knowing that slower=safer things he's going to save lives.

It doesn't occur to him that everyone is now distracted by what (at night) appears to be an official standing by the side of the road and when read roadworks strike up around the corner the efficacy of the SLOW board will be lost.

So what to do? If I cut the vest down myself next time I'm passing, will I be breaking any law? What about if I took the sign and dumped it by the roadworks that are ongoing a few miles up the road?

If you decide to cut it down....

*make sure* it really isn't a traffic cop before you do it

If the vests are any good you can sell them on eBay.
You just have to hope the stockroom keeps getting filled

Sounds like a nice little earner for 2007.

Take the offending items home with you. Then replace 'SLOW' with 'W4NKER' and an arrow pointing to their house (if obvious).

Keep the hi-viz, they're useful

Is it not an offence to create road signs and display them at the side fo the road?

It'll be tough.. very little difference between a telegraph pole and a scamera operator.

The telegraph pole isn't quite as thick and is probably capable of a basic conversation

As already warned, be sure there's not a different type of inanimate object attached to the dayglow shawl before unvelcroing.
