Sorry another question.

I see the Mini2 has ASC+T as standard and if this is anything like the same thing in my '98 Beemer it is pretty basic.

DSC is an option but can anyone tell me the difference in what these two systems do?

Cheers.

Automatic stability control with traction. This is in all sense anti lock braking but also gives you traction control if the wheels start to slip(braking individual wheels and engine retarding).
Dynamic stability control has many more functions-If you get it all wrong the DSC will try with all its might to staighten you back up by braking various wheels.there are various sensors to tell the control unit what the car is doing, whether it is sliding, turning, about to spin or break away from the road surface.
So if you go into an understeer or oversteer it will correct it,if the front or rear breaks away it will correct it,if you hit ice or pull away on a loose surface it will optimise traction and so on.
What in effect all this means is the DSC will try and keep you in a straight line what ever you do aswell as reduce braking distance and helping you pull away on a loose surface.
However,if you approach a sharp corner at 90 mph you will crash(Like everything,it can only work within the laws of physics-in this case Cams wheel).
It can on mini be a little sensitive if your an agressive driver-this is manly due to the wieght of the min.

the other thing about mini dsc (at least facelift on) is that dsc gives you an LSD.

i have it and it does help get the power down. it's getting more obvious as the tyres wear out..!

I'd have DSC over ASC any day. ASC in practice is much more intrusive when you pull away hard, i.e. the car tends to bog down and loose power for way too long. DSC lets the car move about a lot more, just keeping it pointing in a straight line.

Turn everything off and left foot brake!
In wet conditions and with lots of practice it is far better than any electronic aid as you decide how much the wheels spin in order to get the best traction. A balance between power (right foot) and precise braking (left foot) is far more inobtrusive and is a far more involved driving experience.
Been driving powerful FWD cars for nearly twenty years, works for me.
Careful first time you try it though, I nearly went through the screen!
