With all the problems at the factory, what do people think, have Chimaera prices:

1. Already taken a hit - there is more to come?
2. Already taken a hit - they have bottomed out - normal depreciation now?
3. Are about to take a hit?
4. Something else?

4 - something else, probably a slight dip as a knee jerk reaction then no lasting affect.

Turn it around - will TVRs troubles stop sales of Chimearas (and Griffiths) Don't see why it really should

After all, there's not a lot that is prorietary under the skin of Chimaera. Chassis bits 'could' be made up by any half decent engineering shop, the running gear, engine, gearbox etc were always outsourced any way. if anything, more concern should have been expressed when CX's went out of production - yet you can still get wing mirrors.

Now if I was a contemplating buying a Sp6 or AJP powered vehicle - that's a different K.o.F

Will Cerbs become cheaper than Chims? Maybe, maybe

Don't know, but I do know that

* The red 4.3 currently residing in my parents' garage (gave me a chance to do something useful over the Christmas holiday, like cleaning, polishing and Waxoyling ) sure looks to be a lot of sports car for the money, and I don't really see honest, serviceable examples on this end of the market getting any cheaper. Fantasy prices for low-mileage 'minters' with no stone chips but the potential to go up in flames through perished rubbers may come down though, as the posers' market moves on to more fashionable things...

* In 15-20 years time, when all there's to buy in dealers' showrooms is GPS-governed electric-powered 'green' milkfloats, cars like these will be worth as much, relatively speaking, as an original Cobra (oh OK then, a Big Healey at the very least) now...

Hmmm this thread gets me thinking...... confused
Was planning to sell the Chimaera in the spring. I have a 6 month old child and another on the way so the car just isn't being used at all.
I'm probably only going to get 8k tops for it so should I sell or store? I know storage is sacrilege, but I dont want to tell me kids how I sold my pretty, V8 powerful, convertible, reliable (yep really) British sports car for the price of a new kitchen.
To help me make a sensible decision, what do people think will be the floor price of Chimaeras? Lets assume good condition reasonable mileage etc. I'll kick things off:

£5k

Cheers and HNY to all

I think we all talk the values of our cars down. Accentunated by people that have the cliche view that TVR are unreliable. I still think its astonishing that you can get a V8 supercar like a Chimaera for under £10k.

I was looking around at the price of Chimaeras a few months ago and a decent one was 10k minimum and the S series seemed a much more reasonable proposition for 5-6k.

I notice that in the classifieds there are now several Chims for 7-8k - less than some of the S V8s!

I think that's natural depreciation though - TVR being in business or not certainly wouldn't worry me as a purchaser, as already said, most stuff will still be available.

If I already had a good sorted Chim I would NOT be selling it right now, the way things are going we won't be allowed cars like that in a few years rolleyes

I was thinking of breaking mine, i think it might be worth more in parts and its immaculate, but with a tasty engine and some really nice parts.

We are already into the price catagory of MGB and TR6s, how much lower can they drop?? British V8 convertibles can surely only drop so far??? I have to believe a recovery is on the cars long term.

I can't see them doing anything but appreciating for here on in. Newer cars will suffer from lack of aftermarket support plus lack of any factory [support], but TVR Power have the RV8 cars covered and there is a healthy aftermarket. Even if NS does manage to produce Eurotivs there will be a strong market for the genuine article.

Speed 6 cars will rapidly become a rarity as engines become harder to source. I can see RV8 or LS conversions for Tuscans etc becoming more commonplace shortly.

For sure there is no way I would consider selling my car now, I'm considering it a long term investment from here on in. TVR is dead, long live TVR!

I've always rated your contributions on PH as well-informed and well-considered. Now I know how smart I am too! Totally agree with you. I've just added back to the resale value the notional depreciation over the past year. This fully sorted V Reg Chimaera 450 with 24k miles is now back to 15K pounds - not that I'm selling

Yep, its still in the classifieds, in fact at the mo its one of the most reasonably priced ( Def the quickest one!)but not really any interest. Couple of e-mails from virtual tyre kickers. i'll hang on till March before doing anything drastic as my LS Cerbera won't be running till then.

brummiewedge why you selling? what you gonna replace that spec with, must admit this is a bad time to sell i got my one for silly money because i purchased in nov last year and the guy said he had nothing but Dreamers/Tyre kickers may be worth waiting till spring if you can.

I have bought a Cerbera with a snapped crank at the right lolly, and i have an LS Chevvy motor, that is stroked to 6.3 high lift cam, flowed heads etc, that makes around 500+ Bhp,to stuff back in the hole! That chassis is in the powder coaters tommorow, then building from the ground up. Garage aint big enough for Chim and Cerb. The Cerb is at Dyno Torque till around March then the Chim must go.

Seller of my 'new' Chim told me a very similar tale when I came to have a look (and subsequently put a deposit on the car which I found to be as described overall) early December. I did plan on getting one towards the end of the year after having followed supply, demand and prices for several years. There maybe somewhat less cars for sale now than in spring/summer, but demand from kosher buyers (no bullsh*t, readies in hand so to speak) is close to nil as old Chimaeras aren't exactly a 'need' article, and Christmas is either looming large or has made its requisitory dent in household finances...

Christ !! NO !! yikes You can't break a car like that after you'e put so much time and effort into it !! I was one of the people that emailed you for more details, to be honest if it was a different colour I'd knaw your arm off !! I know it sounds crap but the old BRG colour just doesn't do it for me (wonder how much a respray is scratchchin)

That's the plan here, too. Apart from daily runabouts (before I got a company motor, and probably after I got my last one, too ) on which I tend to spend not a great deal, I see a pattern emerging of me buying something special which is hovering around the bottom of its depreciation curve every twelve years or so, and hang on to it - building me a nice little collection. In 1994, as a student, it was a Saab 900 Turbo (now with twice the power and three times the handling it had), just before Christmas the Chimaera joined the stables, 2018... hmmm, who knows, I think by that time I'll be er, 'mature' enough for an Aston...

Or to be a bit patriotic and leftfield in one go, a Spyker paperbag Probably a purposeful C12 Le Mans racer rather than the ones with the interior lifted from a boudoir, though!
