Hi
Does anyone know if there are any pistons from the rover range that will fit a 4.6 block when using buick heads? these might be needed to raise compression ratio.

The 300 heads will drop your c/r by a couple of ratios due to the 54 cc chambers. You won't recover that with any of the stock pistons. You'll need something forged/custom made. Now, you could fit a turbo and make use of the bigger ports and lower cr

Hmmm, turbo, that sounds nice

are you having the block rebored?

if so re-bore the block to 94.2mm and use chevy pistons- these pistons HAVE to have the crown machined, which means you can have an CR you want!

can't remember the piston spec but i can dig it out if you want.

I'd really appreciate that if you wouldn't mind.
Thanks Pugwash

Bet they haven't got a .944" pin. They'll probably be .927" and the 4.6 has a longer rod then the early rovers so you can't use an old rod and bore out the pin to .927". Unless the pistons have a very short compression height you'll have to machine off the top ringland That'll make for a really low c/r.

See if you can find those specs as it may be something I've not come across.

dammit i can't find the info anywhere

i'm pretty sure it was a KB-silvolite piston for a chevy V6 of some sort (i think)- everything was right (IIRC) about from the crown height- i would have to go out and find out what bore i have one the block which used these chevy pistons- it might have been as large as a 94.5mm bore. if i get a sec i will go and check tomorrow!

if the silvolite site starts working again then i will find the product for you

Main thing is the pin bore and the 4.6 rod length needs factoring in. I've done lots of stuff/research with different pistons and usable options are very slim unless you decide to modify something else to make them suit. The good thing is they are cheap and easy to replace if you damage one unlike custom forgings.

Machining will have to be done as it will need reboring but before i do that i'd like to know just what else is involved so prices/feasability can be considered

thanks
