18/12/2006 - Synergy Racing announces All-Star Porsche GT line-up for Rolex 24 At Daytona

ALTON, Va. (December 14, 2006) – Synergy Racing will have an all-star Porsche GT line-up behind the wheel of its No. 81 Porsche GT3 Cup at the 2007 Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 27-28. European Porsche racers Patrick Huisman, Richard Westbrook and Richard Lietz will join American Steve Johnson for the historic endurance race.

Dutchman Huisman is a four-time Porsche Michelin Supercup champion (1997-2000) with a wealth of endurance racing experience, including GT victories in 24-hour races at Le Mans (1999), Nurburgring (2000) and Zolder (1997-98), as well as a win in the 12 Hours of Sebring (1999).

Westbrook scored podium finishes at every Porsche Michelin Supercup race last season securing his spot in history as the first-ever Englishman to take the series championship. The 31-year-old racer's resume also includes the 2004 Carrera Cup Great Britain championship after finishing as runner-up to the championship in 2002 and 2003.

Austria's Lietz burst onto the Porsche Michelin Supercup scene as a rookie in 2006, finishing third in the championship standings with three victories. The 22 year old had past success in the Carrera Cup Germany, finishing third and fourth in the championship standings in 2005 and 2004, respectively. He also took the Formula 3 German championship in 2002.

Rounding out the driving foursome is Virginia-resident Johnson, whose first all-star appearance came on the football field instead of the racetrack. A former member of the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys, as well as an All-American Honorable Mention from Virginia Tech, Johnson turned his focus to the racetrack in 2003. Last season, he finished seventh in the Rolex Series GT championship as a rookie driver.

“It really took a huge effort to put this together. We have been working on it for several months,” said Cole Scrogham, Synergy Racing co-owner. “We have not had this kind of opportunity as a team since 2000 and are grateful for what is arguably the best driver line-up we have ever had at a 24-hour race. We have won a lot of championships and races but the Rolex 24 is one that has always seemed to slip away. Maybe this is our year."

All four drivers will join Synergy Racing for official series testing at Daytona International Speedway, January 4-6, in preparation for the 2007 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Ticket packages are already on sale for the 2007 race and can be purchased online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.c

About Synergy Racing
Team owners Cole Scrogham and Danny and Steve Marshall introduced Synergy Racing in December 2004. Based at Virginia International Raceway, Synergy Racing is an evolution of G&W Motorsports, which had catered to Porsche racing since 1996 and became the most successful team in the Rolex Sports Car Series with four team championships and four driver champions, 15 class wins and more than 50 podium finishes. The team underwent a major transformation that included a name and logo change, as well as a complete restructuring into a customer-based championship racing business, which concentrates on the needs of the customer rather than solely the desires of the team.
