3.6 Oil Consumption
Discussion
Appologies for probably going over old ground, but last week I was reading a thread where people were discussing the oil consuption of their cars, with figures of up to and I'm sure I recall, over 1L per 1000 miles.
I've now cleared the 1000M mark since buying the car but do not appear to have used any oil at all.
Just wanting to check that I am not missing something?

If by 1000M you mean the first 1000 miles on the (thicker) run-in oil, then yes that sounds normal; mine used none at first. But she has started to use some since the Mobil 1 0/40 was put in - maybe 1L per 1000 miles or so. I'm keeping an eye on it for now; I may try a thicker oil in future...
Some use more than others. 1000 miles on a track will use more than 1000 miles tiptoeing around the currently slick roads of blighty.
Mine rarely needs topping up between sevices (and then only 'cos I like to ensure its higher than lower on the dipstick).
I still get black deposits on the tailpipe after using lots of revs on a drive, but then our new Golf GTi and previous TT did the same - a smidge of consumption is not an issue.

Thanks everyone.
It's not a new car, just new to me. It has 12 on the clock. Not sure which oil is already in there, but as it hasn't appeared to have used any then it may be one of the thicker options.
All said, I haven't exactly given the car any welly, which as mentioned, is a sure fire way to burn a little oil.

As others have said, some use more than others. The important thing is to check regularly, and be consistant when checking.
