Picked one up yesterday so that I could enjoy HD gaming without an HD telly..

All plugged in in the study into my 17inch TFT... WOW.. that really is impressive..

I really do advise getting one and trying it if you haven't got an HD telly.. PGR3 looks so rich and TDU is awesome!

Best 15 quid I've spent in a long time..

I'm currently running mine on a 19" CRT monitor.
I set the console to the 1360x768 res for now
and it looks really nice.

I did have quite a nice tft a while back but sold it on
as i prefered CRT.Things have advanced somewhat since then
though so another will be on the cards for me at some point.

First lap of the 'Ring on PGR3 I set a laptime some 9 seconds better than my last, purely because I could see the track better!!

I bought one a couple of days ago and it really is very impressive

Oh yeah, that's another thing, the day I got the optical cable for 5.1, ahhhhh, bliss Sounds better then when just going through the TV to 5.1 ???

Basically, if you are running a 360 on PAL with standard sound, you are missing out. It's like buying a car and putting a rev limiter on it, you are just not getting the full experience !!

Indeed.I have always used a digital amp and woofer for consoles, it certainly adds to the experience.
I even run my PC through it too.The difference between almost any PC speaker sets and some decent seperate components is like comparing CD audio quality to a 'normal' position tape!

I haven't quite got my head around this lot yet. I've now got a 32" HDTV and am using the component cables. Will I get a better picture using a VGA Cable?

If so, is it worth getting one or simply holding out for the HDMI cable whenever it gets launched?

Thanks in advance

There's a barely noticable difference in quality between the VGA and component cables, so probably not worth the £15 extra it would cost you.

The 360 will actually upscale DVDs but only through the VGA cable.

That's why I bought it but the fan noise makes them virtually unwatchable.

Picture wise for gaming I actually thought the VGA looked slightly worse although there was almost nothing in it. Certainly not worth spending £20 on.

Thanks folks, the way I see it I've just "Saved" £20 then!

Marvellous, I can now justify a new game...I love spin!

Are you sure you are not confusing fan noise with the dvd drive noise?
Either there are two types of xboxes around, or people are making this mistake quite
often.
I can just about hear the fans on my 360 (if i turn the volume off and concentrate) yet
it sits about a foot away from my head right next to my PC monitor.
Even after i added some extra fans it is still much quiter than my PC.
The DVD drive though roars all the time when in use, they all do this.
Play a game demo from the hard drive for example and you should hardly hear a thing.
Well, unless some 360's really do have stupidly loud fans and some don't.
