4.5 engine for £1200

have been offered a 4.5 engine -running fro a 29k car. unable to get history for it- what de ye think

Depends 1k2 does seem a lot for an unknown engine that will certainly need a complete rebuild, I'll give you £2.50 + P&P for it.

1200 is ok - have seen them go for much more than that. BUT I agree that if you need to spend 2K plus on work to it (eg valves, big ends etc) then it suddenly aint such a bargain.

If it can be proven to run OK without any terribly serious issues, I've got £1500 burning a hole somewhere too... although I appear to be well down the list.

Give a description of the car and someone here might be able to track down who owned it. My old Cerbera that ended up as a Cat B so should never end up back on the road had one awesome engine and was the smoothest power deliver of any Cerbera i ever drove

I notice your car is a 4.2.

Whilst a few parts are interchangeable, there are a few other bits that you will need rather than just the engine such as manifolds, intakes, ECU (can be interchanged by a clever Indy), some of the pipework etc..

£1200 sounds a great deal even if it needs work.

The engine is complete with manifolds etc, not a short engine. basicaly from a 99 4.5 that was stuffed. eveything is there and have the ecu, so unless I am missing something then it is ready to go. Can't believe how many emailed offers this thread can generate and I am deliberating, mind you it is also a cheap option to keep as a spare.

I reckon it's cheap.

One thing to remember is that there aren't a great deal of AJP engines about, as long as this one can be seen running then although risky it could prove to be worthwhile, then even if it is a bit tired internally I would be tempted to buy it as a back up engine that can be stripped and rebuilt over a period of time to whatever spec I fancied. In fact that's not a bad idea, how much do you want for it.....put me down on the list of buyers please.... something to tinker with while out in the wilderness
