I hear your building an Ultima. How's it going? What happened to the RS?

Hi Paul

RS had to go to fund a house purchase, plus Stig pointed me in the direction of an Ultima chassis... cheers Stigmeister

I had been fond of Ultimas for ages, but not had a garage. So I rectified the garage problem (living accommodation attached into the bargain) and will soon be commencing with the build. Antcipate 1-2 years for me to finish it, and no fancy websites neither

I came to the Ultima conclusion after realising I couldn't get an RS as light or powerful or as good looking as an Ultima GTR.

Cheers

So your going to be in the old rover for two years then. Bloody hell. What a wait! I would have thought a year might be sufficient to build one though. Mind you, it would take a buffoon like me about 5 years I reckon. Good luck!

As a side point, I would be tempted to buy a half finished one and cut down on the mega wait! Theres a tasty deep blue one in the back of PH. If I were ever to do it, that's the way I'd go.

Who bought the RS?

Nah, I couldn't drive a sodding Rover for two years. Check my profile and you will see the pimpmobile runabout. A nice little 3 series Bimmer. Powered by a V8 engine.

This will be my exciting car until the Ultima is built, then when the BMW is supercharged and running on RS suspension, and the Ultima is built, it will be my soft sensible shopping wagon

The fun is in the build, so I don't want a part built or fully built one, unless just for the bits (although that blue one is tempting).

Cheers
D

RS went to my Porsche tech, BTW.

He has rebuilt it to a mega spec, soon to hit the road. He has promised me a drive in the old girl

Good luck with the project Domster. I am currently considering the following:

Divorce Hungarian wife, sell house here and buy her a smaller one.
Move back to my house in the UK and use my half of the money for a TVR (sensible car) and an Ultima for fun.
Big problem is my son, he is 2 and a bit and is definitely Daddy's boy. Unfortunately the Hungarian divorce court will not agree . Sadly for me I put him higher than my driving pleasure (at the moment).

Cheers Kevin.

Sounds like you have even more to consider than me... Good luck sorting it all out.

As you say, kids come first etc. - people normally build kit cars either before kids/marriage or when the kids have left home. Another 18 years or so is too long for me to wait and the school fees will be eating into the Ultima budget...

I'm trying to get in with the build beforehand, but with my rate of build progress I may be finishing it off with my pension anyway
