So I finally got around to t-cutting back the cloudy beige paintwork on my new AW11, and low and behold, it's now gleaming white again
One coat of wax and two aching arms later, here's the result:
The old girl scrubs up pretty well! The wheels are ROH's, btw, which I think look ok. Apart from a slightly noisy wheel bearing, she goes pretty well too, although the cambelt needs done at some point.
The AW11 anoraks out there will have spotted that the original blue top 4AGE has been replaced with a 'red & black' top, probably from a later AW11 or possibly a late-80's 'rolla.
Driving-wise, it feels like a big go-cart
It has amazingly quick steering with loads of feedback - very 'darty', and it loves the twisty stuff. The engine thrives on revs, and pulls hard for a little 'un from 4k all the way round to 7k, making a fabulous howl when the TVIS opens up. It's JDM, so I think that means 130 bhp, with weight about 950-ish kg.
It feels quicker off the line than my old Skyline, although the 'liner would reel it in eventually. The main thing is that I can use the performance more of the time than with the Skyline, which really needed a long open road. So it's more fun

hiya
Its lookin good
the white ones scrub up nicely don't they.
I like the black bumper and side skirts. they are a nice contrast. better than the colour coded bumpers on the later models on your colour of car. i prefer colour coded ones on some.
the engine is probably just a later spec Aw11 from a mk1, as i think the corolla one doesn't use the TVIS.....
you can also get the seats in black and silver/grey to match the white car too, but any colour was an option when sold.
glad to hear you are having fun around the small twisty roads - they love it!

That isn't a TVIS plenum chamber from what I can see. I'd say you have the small port spec 4A-GE from the corrola as opposed to a late mk1 engine.

Thanks, I must admit I wouldn't have picked a white car given the choice, but it's growing on me. I like the black/white contrast too, very 80's
I think the other colours look better with coded bodykit, like that green/gold scheme I've seen on a couple. sadako said:

I was wondering about that - how can you tell the difference, apart from removing the inlet manifold? The plenum has about 8 'ribs' running along it, left to right in the picture, if that helps any.
Anyone recognise that 4A-GE?

The TVIS ones look smooth with a TVIS badge stuck on the top. The best way to tell is when you floor it do you feel a surge and the engine note change noticably between 4 and 5 thousand revs? That is the result of the tvis butterflies opening. The exact PRM that this kicks in depends on the ecu, the early one kicked in around 4k, the later revision kicked in just under 5k. If i'm right that is a plenum from a revision after the mk1 and doesnt have this. There is no point fitting that plenum without fitting the engine and probably the ECU and harness that goes with it as the head is ported differently to allow for this change in operation.
Usually when people fit the late engines they just fit the engine from a late mk1 which will work mostly on the same ancilleries as the early one. In one of mine i'm running an early engine on late ancilleries and it doesnt bother it at all.
