Insurance - Good companies?
Discussion
Hi,
I dont know what was posted before christmas but i would strongly suggest shopping around. You can get good prices from some very unexpected places.
Are you a member of the TVRCC? If so there are a few good companies in Sprint magazine that specialise in TVR insurance and you get a discount as a club member.
If you dont get Sprint, i or someone can no doubt post the companies on here.. (once i've dug my copy of Sprint up)
But strangely the best deal i got for a Early 30's bloke with 1 big claim in the past 3 years was 'Direct Line'. When i was younger they wouldn't touch me with a barge pole. So i would never dismiss any company.
I hope that helps a bit.
Nick

It might have been my thread, I can't be arsed searching either
I got about 30 indicative quotes online using confused.com and moneysupermarket.co.uk (a lot of insurers wouldn't quote). Then a few quotes from some of the specialists, some of who wouldn't quote because it is my first year of TVR ownership (this was pointed out to me that this is distinct from "have you driven a similar performance car before?" ).
The final upshot was I went with Hagerty, and dealt with Phil who was very helpful.
Some plus points:
much cheaper than other quotes;
very low excess;
modifications didn't affect premium;
agreed value is higher than I actually paid (so is the spring/summer value, not the middle of winter value)
Some negatives:
classic car policy (on a 98R) so I need another car as my shopping car;
limited miles (5000mpa for me, but again, it's a second car so less of an issue)
While joining the TVRCC is a good idea anyway, I found that the reduction in quote from the specialists seemed to be about the same as the cost of joining. In other words, zero net effect if you joined TVRCC just for reduction in insurance cost. In fact, on my policy pistonheads is down as the "collector vehicle club"
Hope that helps, but as always be prepared to spend some time on the phone

Privilege were miles cheaper than anyone else for my Tuscan but for a Chim the classic car boys may be better. Maybe worth doing an online quote with privilege anyway as a comparison. Mannings are the TVRCC insurer. I found them hopeless as have others with S6 models but I know other members with Chims and Griffs have found them to be competitive and I think they include track day cover.

Heritage here - they were £200 a year cheaper than the next nearest quote - and I called every single insurance company in Sprint plus a lot more besides !
They give TVRCC discount and free track day insurance cover providing you are at a club organised event. Ok I havent uised it yet but you never know !
