944 Sunroof = wet seats

Well my sun roof jammed open today, subsequent result was a very very wet interior -
Managed to track problem back to set of 2 microswitches on back of mechanism being full of s
t, just hope info can assist some other poor unfortunate - I am now going to dry off after spending 2 hours in the rain fixing it.....

t, just hope info can assist some other poor unfortunate - I am now going to dry off after spending 2 hours in the rain fixing it.....Just in case anyone doesnt know this, you can open and shut the sun roof manualy with a srew driver. If you look inside the boot and peel back the linning on the left hand side, you'l find the mechanism. Theirs a little cross thread nut in front of the motor turn this and the sun roof moves up and down.
For future reference were exactly are the micro switches located? I know their their but I havent managed to find them, my sunroof is getting progresivley more and more tempremental. It would be nice to get it sorted.

The microswitches are at the rear of the motor assembly behind that trim previously mentioned.

Mine is the early pre-86 roof so it is 2 switchs ganged together at the rear of the mechanism - simply removing them from the mechanism was enough to free the roof.
What I have to figure out now is how to remove the removable panel - so that I can replace the seal......
What I have found this morning though is that if i open the roof fully it is still jamming - although goin on the brakes hard whilst holding the rocker to close it will make it close, my guess is the mechanism needs some adjustment for topmost point on the roof etc - fun fun fun

Recently carried same water leak repair and at same time replace drive cogs on drive.
1: AFN supplied 2 cogs about £6-00
2:New seal from Design 911 by post around £55-00
3: clear out the 4 drain tubes [each corner with cooper wire]
4: remove plastic headliner over trim, peel back, headliner enough to access mechanism.
5: Remove motor cover, bit greasy hear, remove drive ratchet, pull out old drive cogs and lubricate new items.
6: Refit as per removal, noting that the drive ratchet has a hole within which aligns with motor to ensure prefect fit
Job done

Still need to figure out how to get the damned removable (only if you have 3 degrees) roof out to do the seal.... arrrggghhhhhh bloody german engineering
interloper said: Dont know if this applies to the latter cars, but on early models like mine (its an 84). The manual opening mechanism when turned the other way will first shut the roof then release it. Allowing complete removal.
Hope thats of some help.
Sounds like we have the same model, i will give it a try and let you know.
