Got tickets on NYE for the weekend. Bronze are, can't be bothered to sit in a grandstand all weekend, would rather walk around.

On the website, www.spagrandprix.com/ they have the area beyond Eau Rouge as GREEN, and 100 E's for the weekend, and BRONZE for the rest of the track, but in another picture, www.spa-francorchamps.be/en05/tickets/tickets.php they show Eau Rouge as bronze! confused

Will the bronze be valid for all standing areas, and green just for that bit after Eau Rouge, or will I not be able to get to see one of the best corners on the calendar???

Any help or info is appreciated!! CANT WAIT!!!!

Cheers,
Andy

Having been in the Eau Rouge grandstand a few years ago, I have to confess that it was disappointing, as the cars were all flat through there and so the spectacle (incredible as it was at first) wore off quickly. Same applied for the support races too unfortunately.

It's nice to have a good spot near a diamond vision screen, private bogs and a bar though

although it was 1992 when we went, and my memory is very bad, i think that your are right, although it was all bronze when we went! green does look like being just that one area. it was a nice atmosphere though, the first lap was awesome as the cars were about a second apart so the noise was just constant...

Best viewing point has to be main straight, but on the far left of the grandstand as you look at the track. That way you can see the pits, see the cars at their slowest, see first corner action, the start, the pits, the drivers and a view straight up Eau Rouge!

We were bronze when we went in (I think) '01 - was the year Schuey and Hakkinen had that epic battle ending with that great passing move on the run down to Les Combes.

Agree with StuB about Eau Rouge, it won't keep you entertained for long. But we were able to get very close to the exit of Eau Rouge at the top of the hill (on the outside of the circuit) and watch the cars at very close quarters during one of the practice sessions. This gives the best of both worlds as you can appreciate the corner, the sound, and the cajones of these guys but can move on when your ears start to bleed!

For the race, we got in early and parked ourselves opposite the Diamond Vision screen on the straight after Eau Rouge. Suppose we were very lucky to see that pass so close up but it probably is one of the best places to see overtaking at Spa. Of course we were sat in a pile of beer cans etc by the end of the race but, for us, if you're going for a weekend you don't want to limit yourself to one grandstand and there's lots of track to see at Spa.

The critical question is, of course, whether that area after Eau Rouge is green or bronze. When we went, it was all bronze but maybe they've changed it. I guess the ideal would be to roam the bronze areas on the Saturday and then pick your spot in the Green on the Sunday. Anyway, best of luck, you'll have a great time.

Chris

PS - the facilities at Spa make Silverstone look fantastic, though the toilets are at least always convenient - everyone just uses the woods!
PPS - take waterproofs!

Went in '98 and '99 - you can see some of Eau Rouge and what you can see is enough to fill you with awe...however the corner no longer holds a challenge since the resurface and tarmac run-off. Bronze will, however, get you to Pouhon (or did then) - probably the most challenging corner nowadays. There was a screen there in those years, too.

Well, like the others have said, in previous years you could roam around nearly all of the circuit.

When I went in 2004 I walked round from Pouhon to Eau Rouge the wrong way i.e. down the straight marked as a green area on the map. I would guess that Bronze will be OK for all standing areas as it is more expensive than the Green ticket. Mind you it was a bit of a mission getting round the back of the grandstand at Eau Rouge so maybe they have decided to change the access past here?

Also the other side of Eau Rouge you get a reasonable view of the cars climbing up the hill and through the corner. This was where all the stalls selling hats and the usual tat were so you should be able to see something of the corner from there.. also make sure you get your frites and mayo from the little shed next to Eau Rouge!

There is lots of work going on at the place at the mo, pics here - www.spa-francorchamps.be/gfx/travaux2006%2D2007/index.htm Don't ruin it Bernie! nono

Whatever I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Wow thanks everybody! I'm looking forward to it already! There looks to be some serious work going on at the moment. Hope they get it done in time and don't have to cancel. Oh.. hang on.... They're not british!! Lol

I thought this too, the bronze would get you everywhere else plus the green, for the extra money you paid. Have to wait and see.

Anybody going?

Love to be there this year, depends on if I can talk around the rest of the guys that come along to GP's with me.

Been to Hungary for the last two years, rubbish circuit but we've made friends with our Finnish pals that bring lots of beer and vodka! If only I can talk my guys out of a third year in a row... There are a number of perfectly suitable bars in Francochamps which is only staggering distance from the campsite, however I am there for the racing you understand laugh

I went in 2005. Great circuit but remember it's not on an airfield like Silverstone is therefore, it ain't flat...

We had bronze passes and went on the straight after Eau Rouge for qualifying which was a good vantage point, but a serious uphill trek to get there!

For the race we sat at the Bus stop chicane. Mainly because it was opposite a TV so we could see everything and also 'cos there was a chance of some overtaking...

Facilities aren't bad if you like Portaloos, and they're not exactly ten a penny either so it could be a dash into the woods!

Call me Mr Boring but i'd fancy having a watch from Stavelot or on the hill alongside the run down to Pouhon (sp).

Whatever you do though take the time to walk/drive into Stavelot itself. If you go to the Abbe you will find that there is a reasonable (if you take Donnington as world class) museum in the basement.

I was stunned to find a number of fairly special cars down there including a 917/10 and an F40.

The new circuit layout replaces the bus stop l-r-r-l with a fast run from Blanchemont into a r-l onto a longer (straight) pit straight. Probably will have better viewing of this from the bank as well.
