Chimaera Chinstrap

Can anyone give me some advise. I've got a 1999 4.0. Yesterday while putting it in the garage for the first time I knocked the metal "Air Dam" off. I'd rather leave it off since it'll make getting into the garage easier. Does anyone know if this will seriusly affect the handling or cooling?
I'm eaither the luckiest man alive or as mad as a box of frogs (depends on your point of view) but I also have a 4.2 Cerbera. The front seems exactly the same but does not have the air dam. So I'm hoping the Chim can go without.
Finaly, the Vac advance is not working and leaking. I understand this is posibly a Rover SDi part? can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks

If you're talking about that bit of metal under the front (I've always heard it referred to as a splitter) then the thing I notice the most is the bonnet opening at speed. On the passenger side (where there's no catch) it lifts some 4-6 inches so clearly the airflow is effected. On the way down to Le Mans one year (after losing the splitter on the train tracks / rail-crossing) the bonnet actually opened. Since then I've had it refitted when it's come off but I now get out to put it in the boot when it comes off rather than waste another £15 everytime...

PS However, keeping it below 130mph doesn't normally cause me any problems

It's a standard Land Rover part. You can get them over the phone from RPI, or any other decent RV8 stockist. I expect a lot of TVR specialists would stock them too. It's worth fixing, because if it is leaking you'll have an un-metered air leak which will make the engine run lean at idle, and the lack of advance will increase the fuel consumption and make it run hotter.
mike, www.famousfour.co.uk landrover specialist most helpful i got my adv unit from them genuine lucas, easy to fit(bit fiddly).

I make my splitters out of squareline gutter, they are dispoable items (2 a year), but tend to distort rather than break - I cut slits so they are sacraficial rather than breaking bodywork/mounts and just cover with suitable tape. Think I made a web page somewhere if you want a look.

Don't those stops get ripped off instead? Ingenious though!
Not yet, over 2yrs now
Flattened one off on the odd occasion but they are soft metal so bend back + i have the rest of the multi-pack to make a few more
Also spin round if hit at an angle as they are only on rivets...GreenV8S said:
