I have a 2002 STI which has a Scooysport complete exhaust with de-cat. Unfortunately I haven't got the cat and need to get an MOT. I had previously used Scoobytek in Basildon Essex (they fitted the exhaust and lent me a cat for the last MOT) but they have gone bust. My local independent Subaru garage (Barretts Motorsport in Canterbury) is now part of the franchised dealer and will not touch it with a barge pole. Any one know of any independent garages in the Kent area - preferably Scooby specialists - who can help me out?

Ask on scoobynet and someone should be able to help you (you may even be able to borrow a cat).

Wouldnt it be easier to find a friendly MOT tester?

I wouldnt condone it myself but I'm sure it cant be that hard for the probe to find itself up another cars pipe. So to speak.

As an MOT tester you must be joking nono if you get found out you would loose your job !! you fit these exhausts systems without thinking of the problems ahead and look for a easy fix scratchchin

I was fully aware of the implications of fitting this exhaust which is why I used a highly recommended specialist - who I wasn't expecting to go bust!
I am not looking for an MOT tester to do anything which might lose them their job, just wondered if anyone in the Kent area had experienced a similar problem and who they had used.

There is a chap on ScoobyNet who used to have a twin-cat centre which he would lend out for the price of a few beers.

Posted as Elmer Fudpucker. I think he's in Holland now but somebody in Hampshire Scoobs probably has it now. Bung a post in Southern forum, http://bbs.scoobynet.com/southern-22/

Sometimes you can get away with informing the MOT tester proir to it going that it is for motorsport use. And usually they take that into consideration and let it go through.

My 99 RA goes through the MOT easily with just a single standard centre cat on it. (Not sure if the regs are different for a 2002)

Hmmm, not sure I agree there. Without cats my Impreza only just misses the requirement - 0.5% CO. With a cat it just passes - 0.2% CO on the idle test.

With or without cats, when it's actually being driven as Subaru intended (ie using the turbo) it produces much the same amount of CO due to running a rich mix. The fun bit is that it uses considerably LESS fuel when it is set up with no cat. It's debatable which is the better environmental alternative. Anyone have numbers to add to the debate?

I have yet to try a high flow cat on the car to see if this improves the situation.
