You know the sort - they go "123 D 456"

What's the deal... do they get stopped/NIPped same as the rest of us and have to sign some bit of paper regarding immunity or do Plod just not bother so long as the plate matches the car?

Reckon they're immune. Plod will find that out when they do a pnc search and then let it drop.

I'm with boosted ls1 on this one. I think there are other plates (not Diplomatic) that are also immune, but this may just be an urban legend/my imagination...

I know for a fact that there is a UK armed forces advanced driving course that they can do which makes them immune to prosecution while they are on it, and allows them to "drive like they stole it" & to tell UK police to piss off if they get pulled.
The average write-off rate during the course is apparently 5 write-offs per person per course
And this is all on public roads in normal cars After hearing rumours of this course from various people, I finally met someone who had actually been on it
Almost worth joining the forces for... Oh no wait a minute, there's something else on that they would want you to do. War, that's it

Diplomats are IMMUNE in any normal way and can do what the hell they want up to a point. If they completely take the piss then UKgov asks for action from the offending nation to stop the abuse ( remember WPC shot from Libyan embassy - they were asked to leave the country errr thats it!)

Oi Ambassador Carzee of Pistonheadland.

If you're going to put diplomatic plates on the primula, make sure you get PH "speed matters" flags on the front.

If you're talking about the people I think you are, that's not quite it. They have a number that the police can call to confirm their identity and the likelihood is that they'll then be allowed to go if they are driving in a manner appropriate to their training, but during the selection process in Lancashire recently one of them was caught yumping over a hump backed bridge in a Wolf and subsequently had his licence endorsed.

Oh my god - since when was yumping illegal ? - OK maybe stupid if you cannot see what is over the crest but not far from where I live there's a crest (late at night of course) where cars can be judged by how many car lengths they can leap.

Oh well - that means I've broken the law 8 times in the last week....

Ok - it was on the purpose built yump at Bedford, and it might not be classed as a public road - but given the "air" I got on the yump at bedford that is purpose built - the one I did in Nottingham (see my earlier thread) was much much worse......

The law is an ass (but then - if it's blonde, spotty and 18 prob. me, Mrs CZ and Mrs F will all have a go )

I think this may be a slightly more "specialist" course? Certainly one of the tales I heard concerned someone crawling out of a car that they had just totalled - Mr Plod comes along & says that he would personally ensure that they would be put away for dangerous driving, and said driver tells him to phone a number & kindly piss off.
Policeman phones number & is then told to do just that....

Wish I coulda seen it

The course seems to be part of anti-terrorist evasion training.

Think it's the same lads. I've heard this one too (near Manchester ?) I think in matey's case the powers that be decided that he was just taking the pi$$.

BTW Wolf's a modded Land Rover Defender, anyone yumping one would have to be v brave/stupid.

Is this gonna post this time, without crashing the browser ?

Yeah - aren't they the one's with the fat tires & the vertical sidepipes? Designed for bog country?
If so, I had a go of one in the Falklands & it was great fun. Not as much fun as a BV though

Not fact. Wives tale They may be exempt from speed limits whilst undergoing this training but not any other regulation including Careless or Dangerous driving if the circumstances fit the incident. Accidents on public roads which occur during these courses are subject to the same regulations as any accident. If someone is at fault then they are likely to be prosecuted.

He/she sounds as though he is a big laugh . Does he fly a Blackbird jet and surf tidal waves too? If he/she has been in that many write offs, I am surprised he/she is here for you to meet. Take it with a pinch of salt if I were you.
