Got my iMac in October and have had a call frm Apple asking me to take out Applecare for £139 for 3 years. Seems a good deal, is it?

I think so.

I get the parts at trade prices and can do the labour myself, but I still extend the Applecare.

Parts and labour could make a 14 month old bit of kit uneconomical to repair.

A lot cheaper than the package I took out which was a waste of money because I have never needed it.

We used to get people phone us up asking us to come out for a repair. We'd reply no it's carry-in for repair, they'd argue we had to go out. I'd say look we only get £15 for it, we're not paid to go out, please phone Apple. We'd rarely hear from them again.

Apple's systems works by diagnosing the fault, and ordering the appropriate part. There may be several versions of the same processor and they need to be exchanged like for like. It's just not feasible to hold stock, and Apple don't let you.

Can't see how on-site is possible, but looks like it does happen, with a very long wait I'd guess.
