SOCKS through SSH?
Discussion
I'm trying to tunnel out of my job? I have an OpenSSH server running on my PC at home, and want to use PuTTY to tunnel to it to act as a SOCKS server and hence bypass the work's firewall. However, I can only SSH to my home PC from one Unix machine at work. The firewall blocks all other traffic.
Is it possible to use PuTTY to tunnel to this intermediate Unix machine, and then SSH from this to home, and tunnel traffic? If so, how?
EDIT:- Needless to say, the Unix machine doesn't do dynamic port forwarding (apparently!).

How about forgetting SSH, and just running a VPN over port 22? OpenVPN doesnt need anything more than a single TCP or UDP port... then enable ip_forward on the unix box and set that as your work machine's default gateway? The unix box should then route traffic for your home subnet out the VPN and everything else to the correct gateway.
How about doing what your employer demands? If they find out you are deliberately circumventing their security, you could get the sack or worse.
