...but not all of them make it as far as being published. Sorry mark, Im not sure I know what tramping is (thought maybe it was like 'dogging' but involving the homeless?) so Im of no help. But I will hang around and make stupid posts if that all the same with you?

It can be cause by tyres, half shafts, dampers, bushes, chassis flex, or a combination. Chassis flex shouldn't be a problem for you assuming nothing has failed catastrophically, so dampers and bushes would be the next thing to check.

Hmmmm, tramping used to be caused by rear axle whip when reaching the limit of leaf spring flex (One of the best examples of this can be seen when Steve McQueen reverses his Mustang in Bullitt) so, unless your hub or wishbone links are destroyed then I can only imagine that it's tyre bounce on said surface.
Does it smooth out with sustained spin ? - as the tyre spins more (and becomes more heated and pliable)

Hi, I also have a blue one that tramps like F
k and i think you'll find that due to the fact it's not a live axle (ie not a MK1 escort)which is caused by the axle trying to turn instead of the wheels, so they bounce with intermittent grip.
I reckon that probably your shocks have gone weak and dont have enough damping effect to counter this action.
I have just bought some adjustable AVO's from Ebay nice and cheap, gonna put them on this weekend so i'll let you know if it's any better.
