Help, have just bought an S2 and looking for some advice.
The steering and general handling seems very nervous when cornering hard.I have jacked the car up and checked for play in any related parts and all appear ok!
I have been told it could be the tyres - P6000's should i be using a different make or checking a specific part?

Most S owners stick to Brigstone RE71 or SO2's if they can still get hold of them.
Due to a lack of the above, ive got Bridgstone SO3's fitted at the moment and judging by the results at Bruntingthorpe on Saturday you cant get much better.
The springs and shocks may also need replacing. Many owers fit upgraded versions such as Gaz which are available from Tower View Race Services.
The steering rack can also work loose but this generally manifests itself as rattles and shakes.

I have p6000's on my V8S and although their not the best they are fine for everyday driving and you probably won't notice the difference unless on the track so i won't think it was down to the tyres - maybe tyre pressure ?

All imho :until Mr heath or Mr Humphires says otherwise:
My S2 came with a set of p6000s which I absolutely hated, the level of grip was abysmal. Changing the tyres can make a big difference to the handling. Also check the tyre pressures. Other things to consider are worn suspension bushes/joints (ball joints and upper/front bushes in particular), condition of the dampers, no broken springs and suspension geometry, check you have no play in the steering. These things handle pretty darned well when they're set up right. (Need more power and an LSD to really sparkle but one step at a time!)

You need More Power![]()
Don't you have enough already
I was talking about my old S2, the handling was good enough to cope with more power which is why I went for the V8S in the end. And once the V8S was set up it was really asking for more power which is why I went for the bigger engine. And then tuned it a bit. It is still crying out for more power though. Although it is often easy to provoke a power slide, it is rare that I can't get full power down if I'm careful, and the handling is still nicely balanced.
Get the geometry checked. You could have slight toe out on the rear wheels which will make it feel nervous and 'backendy'.
You could also have too much toe out or positive / neutral camber on the front which will make the car feel nervous as well.
Geometry check is cheaper than replacing the tyres at this stage.
Jas.

P6000's on the front of my S2, not noticed anything wrong with the tyres to be honest, but then I'm not as seriously into these things as some poeple on here
My car had a full geometery set up via SFR Engineering not long before I got it, but when I first drove it (for about a month or so) it did feel twitchy comapred to other things I'd driven. Must have got used to it now though. If you're worried I'd get it checked for anything obvious thou'.

Well, P6000s are standard fit on my Primera. Make of that what you will..
SO3 Pole Positions are indeed absolutely marvellous on my S - their performance rather puts my RE71s to shame - especially on the wet.
Shame I need the 60 profile of the RE71 to keep the poxy exhaust off the ground

Not forgetting for the VR tyre rating of the V6 S's the RE720 is a far superior tyre to the RE71, if you require to keep the 60 profile for the ground clearance that is, if not then the SO2/3 route is the way to go (AIMHO).

Thanks for all the advice,I have spoken to my local specialist who has recommended a check of all the bushes etc and chamber / caster. He feels the tyres should be ok and maybe the springs and shocks could be u/s.The trouble is I don't have much to compare it with and so if anyone is in the Bristol area and fancies driving it and giving me there opinion, let me know.
