Same thing - you need a long exposure, obtained by using a slow shutter speed. Select 'shutter priority' setting and start with 1s working upwards until you get it how you like it. Too long though and the shot will be over exposed. Point to note - you will need the camera to be absolutely still - tripod is best, failing that rest the camera on a wall or something - press the shutter release very delicately!

Good luck

or use the timer if there is no provision for a shutter release cable.

I like those shots too, but you can look a bit wierd standing at the side of the road at night with a camera.

Also - as shown in the posted pictures, they look much better with a bit of colour in the sky, so do't go in the dead of night! Up to an hour / hour and a half after sunset is normally good depending on the shutter speed.

I really must get a tripod, no way I can hold anything still, no way without a beer or two anyway and that doesn't work with the driving to get somewhere.

I'd agree you definately need a Tripod, I tried with just a monopod and this was the best I could get

Although in my defence it was pretty windy!

Another idea is to frame a stationary car, then fire a long exposure shot just before cars pass behind/infront of it.

(i should have edited out the sign and buildings, but hey)
