And with it, it seems to have deleted all here photos, although her documents seem to be there. I know that they are un-likely to have been deleted but how do we get her settings back and dig arround to find here photos.

Error is at log in stage. and says that windows can not find locally stored personalised settings

We have just had the blue screen of death, which it does have occationally, but it always seems to recover from those.

Anyone with ideas as to where her personal settings are stored or how we can get at least some of it back?

(PS it is 5 years old and fortunately we do nave it backed up just a pita to go through)

Thanks

Chris

Ok. Turn off the option to automatically reboot when it BSOD's as when it happens you can post here with the text of it and we can fix that intermittent fault.

If this is Windows XP, when it brings up the happy clappy select user screen press CTRL + ALT and tap DEL twice. It'll bring up the old fashioned user login. Type 'Administrator' in the user name box and, if you've set one, the password.

Open Explorer.
C:Documents and Settings <username> My Documents My Pictures

Are they in there? If not rummage around in that area (Documents and Settings) see if you can find them.
As for the can't find personalised settings, dunno. Personally I'd just create a new profile (user account) and copy the data needed over, then when she's happy kill off the old and damaged account. Yes, it's long winded, yes I'm sure their are utilities that can patch up a profile but...
